Huge earthquake in New Zealand!

227k jamesPLANESii  7.5 years ago

It was either a magnitude 7.5 or 7.8, depending on where you got your information from. It happened between Kaikura and Christurch, I think. It was so big that I even felt the aftershocks in my bed! (My bed is old but very soft.) It also woke me up, but I wasn't sleeping that hard. Anyway, it lasted for over a minute. Also there were so many aftershocks that I had to turn my iPad's sound off, because I have an app that notifies you about earthquakes in New Zealand, and was going off about three times a minute! It was awesome!

Also here's a website that actually works, so you can see some pics of the earthquake.

@Kalanimcd I'm pretty sure those aftershocks aren't from the Kaikoura earthquake...

Oh no not Christchurch again. Three years ago the area was devastated by a big quake which caused liquifaction or the soil on the earths surface to gain quicksand type properties. Buildings just FELL. Two weeks before the quake struck guess who was in New Zealand plane spotting ... Yes. I was and given how I was treated like royalty everywhere I went I am extremely sorry to learn of this news. Best Wishes to all involved.

I didn't feel it because I am in the upper North Island, but I have a sister who lives in Christchurch but luckily she was okay.

Cool. Now I realize that magnitude 7.2 isnt enough for me. That earthquake happened 3 years ago.

They're happening, but you can barely feel them as they are quite far away from where I live. @SkullsAndCrossbones
