No, the spotlight system doesn't suck. In fact, it's a pretty great idea if implemented correctly. However, at the moment it's broken. Comment and upvote notifications are being buried underneath the spotlight notifications, and since they take up my whole feed, I'm not prone to checking out the spotlights in the first place. Users are giving spotlights to users that already get 50-60 upvotes, or giving spotlights to planes that are average-below average.
I've already unfollowed 10 people because of the spotlight spam, and I'm sure others are doing the same.
Here are my suggestions to fix this (in order of most to least important)
1-create a separate tab like the jet stream for your spotlights. ADDED
2-limit the amount of spotlights each user can give a day. ADDED
3-give a cool down to spotlights. ADDED
This reminds me of when notifications for other people's planes were mixed in with upvotes and comments, and how big a problem that was.

@AchillesDeath I haven't been experiencing that. It could be since you have 0 points higher levels sometimes don't respond to them. If I start having any problems I'll let you know
@Johndfg I have an issue I hope you or another experienced user could solve, since the update, I haven't gotten any notifications that creators I'm following have posted anything, yesterday I would keep checking and it was all just spotlight and not posts, and today I didn't even get notifications for even spotlights or responses to my comments. Can you help me out?

@KingDeadshot not sure what the limit is, I just clicked spotlight and it said I had spotlighted the max already. It's maybe 3-5, not sure though

well the spotlight thing is very helpful to other new builders, but at the same time it is annoying (for me atleast) but not that annoying just... annoying. coming back on to a hell load of notifications 80% of which being Spotlights.
BUT. it is very helpful, so yeah, just a little cooldown or amount of spotlights per day should help a bit!

@AdvancedAeronautics yea people giving out 30 spotlights a day to awful builders. The purpose of the spotlight system is the same as the feature system, to promote lower ranked users, but it isn't being used that way. Also, are you Aeronautics3?

Yes. I agree with all of these suggestions of yours, especially 1.
I woke up with 38 notifications, guess what? All spotlights, I missed 5 mentions or comments, etc. other 3 were Jet Stream
