Goodbye IPad

I built planes on an IPad untill now. Now, I have a gaming computer. It will be used for XML modding, and making my dreams of super detailed plane come true. Goodbye IPad, you have served your place in my Simpleplanes history. Computer, here I come.

On the computer, I will also get Simpleplanes from a website called GOG.com. Simpleplanes was recently released on GOG.com. Here is link to release post.

All in all, this will be a whole new journey, for me. The lonely (but not lonely) Areonautics3.

    @SimpleTechAndResearch F-18 is getting old.
    F-16 is getting old.
    A-10 is getting old.

    When planes get old, they tend to be more maintenance intensive. While the A-10 should be replaced by a plane just as specialized as the A-10, the F-16 and the F-18 are so comparable that both can trace their lineage to the same procurement trials, where the YF-16 competed against the YF-17, the daddy of the F-18.

    The Air Force liked the YF-16 because it had the same engine as the F-15. The Navy liked the YF-17 because it had two engines. They tweaked both designs to become the F-16 and F-18.

    While I feel the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet may be comparable to the F-35 at its current stage, the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is more or less the pinnacle of 4th generation fighter technology, where the F-35 would be an early 5th generation fighter. There's not much more you can do to upgrade the old F-18 platform, but there is much more you can do to upgrade the new F-35.

    Think of the difference between a North American P-51H and a North American F-86 Sabre. In many respects, the P-51 is a superior aircraft. It is a far better dogfighter than the F-86, with greater maneuverability and acceleration than the jet. Both their firepower of 6x12.7mm machine guns are comparable, though the Sabre does have a slight edge in that these guns are in the nose, not the wings, and that the Sabre's guns shoot 50% faster. The P-51 also had a lower accident rate than the Sabre.

    However, just because the P-51H has said advantages, the Sabre is an overall superior aircraft. It is much faster than the P-51H, and while the P-51H is an ultimate evolution of the prop fighter with little left to upgrade, the F-86 is an early jet, with plenty to upgrade.

    F-35 is at this stage a pre-production type, laden with largely experimental technologies that have never been tested together.

    Cut it some slack.

    Against an F-16, the F-35 would roast it with stealth that gives it the first -- and possibly last -- shot in a battle. Even though the F-35 is less maneuverable due to the high wing loading, the F-35 can probably dive better.

    While the A-10 is a unique and highly specialized aircraft that should be replaced by something as unique and specialized, other types such as the F-16 and F-18 are very similar machines. While the Harrier may fall in the same category as the A-10, the F-35B has been tested and is generally a sound concept.

    In addition, airframe costs are decreasing. I think the F-35, although ambitious, will be a highly successful machine in the future. After all, the Corsair and Mustang had issues as well. It took trial and error to figure out how to land a Corsair on a carrier, and the Mustang lacked performance at high altitudes until a Packard V-1650 (license copy of Rolls-Royce Merlin) with a 2-stage supercharger was jammed in it. Give it some time. At least it works better than the MBT-70. @Areonautics3 @SimpleTechAndResearch

    But the A-10 is not suited for a fighter. I think they should just abandon the F-35 and use the F-16.@SimpleTechAndResearch
