Yeah I know i’m like 6 years late to the party on this one, but this spring I picked up Ace Combat 7. It was on sale for like 7 bucks so I thought i’d give it a go, since I was kinda burnt out on Warthunder and Metalstorm. I spent the summer playing through the campaign and I can say it was pretty peak. The story telling, missions, boss fights and cinematics are just amazing and honestly nothing even comes close when in terms air combat games. I also thought the game mechanics themselves were done pretty well, that is to say it’s based loosely on reality but prioritized fun/gameplay. My main issue with the game is the controls are bad, especially for mouse and keyboard. There’s no option for cursor aim, and there are not many settings for how the mouse joystick behaves, not to mention the default settings just feel . . . bad. Another gripe for me is the camera, there is no way to zoom in or out, change your fov, change the distance from the plane etc. without literally loading in cheat engine and hacking the game. The camera isn’t a huge deal in the campaign but in multiplayer it’s really hard to track other players as they’re pulling 17 Gs at mach 3. That said I still really liked the game, and am looking forward to its sequel, hopefully they’ll add more support for keyboard players in Ace Combat 8. I’d love to see an Ace Combat game covering cold war aircraft from the 50s and early 60s, so hopefully that’s what we’ll get next.
I play Ace Combat 7, it's good fun. For a series that launched exclusively to console only with some exceptions to handheld and PC, controls would surely not be the best for a keyboard. I myself play with keyboard with custom controls similar to SP which honestly helped a lot lol. One tip is to either get a controller or just setup a proper control scheme where you're at least not annoyed when playing, I will also suggest to not use mouse as a control scheme but rather focus on keyboard, it's not a flight sim anyway.
Multiplayer is a huge spike in difficulty as there are player who are extremely good with post-stall maneuvers, kill you while you were busy with another player, or annoy you with the Darkstar. If you have the Anchorhead DLC, I suggest you practice there around the Hard or Ace difficulty with a decent rank so you get to practice to dodge multiple missiles at once, or just Mission 19 of Campaign.
@LunarEclipseSP
I get the F-5 and A-6 not existing, they're old as ♡♡♡♡, and it wouldn't make sense lore wise for either Osea or Erusea use them
I agree with the panavia tornado one
But the F-117
That thing has 2 weapons slots
No flares
No missiles
No guns
Just 2 slots
For bombs
Is subsonic
An unstable brick
With stealth being the only saving grace
And I have no idea what stealth does in AC-7
@SPWithLizzie also the other rest like the F-5, A-6 Intruder (they exist but only a wreckage), Panavia Tornado, heck even F-117 Nighthawk (only appears as the enemy aircraft)
.
Possibly if they updated or added new airplanes on the game, high chance for them would be a paid DLC or addons.
I mean the controls are expected to suck when you think about it
Ace combat has almost entirely been a console exlusive, with seven being the only onr to go on multiple platforms(except assaoult horizon I think but :3)
So I wouldn't have expected much from a company who has like never worked with PC controls before
Also Pc🥀
@LunarEclipseSP
Rip SU-27
@FartResidue
Give me dog salad then.
Ace Combat 4 for the win
Ac7 is fine but Acx is underrated!
Lack of stock aircrafts
@cluckinator yep that’s me alright 😛
Are you dog residue from undertale?
