WIP and QUESTION(about variable-pitch propeller)

113k pancelvonat  17 days ago

My P-40E project will soon be 1000 parts and 4 years old. I am currently in the process of completing a propeller pitch governor...a device that will maintain any RPM in the 1800-3000 RPM range.
But why is it necessary to adjust the propeller pitch in the first place? What is the benefit of this in SIMPLEPLANES? This is becoming increasingly unclear to me.

Please write down what you think are the advantages.

@pancelvonat Ooh nice! You such an inspiring builder for me. Maybe without you I wouldn't have zero ideas and never gathering enough points to make my page like this.

@LunarEclipseSP Oh comrade. Don't worry, the old me is not lost. But neither will I allow myself to dwell on past glories. I am still beginner🔰 in many areas. This P-40 is just like a chalk-white blackboard for me. I have faced it every day for the past four years, writing, erasing, and smudging. All the pain of trial and error remains as white powder.

Thanks. I just read your comment. I found out that in a way the complaints I had were correct.
Without a doubt, the default propeller engine had the best governor. Now my perfected proprietary blade pitch governor seems to be quite inefficient. Deceleration is sluggish and at high altitudes I am always at risk of over-revving. But as the comments indicate, this seems to be an unavoidable phenomenon at high altitudes where the air is thin.
It is very careful in operation, but does not seem to be going in the wrong direction.

Mate u were nothing just like me though... We used to make some interestingly low parts builds but now we're started to make something above 70 parts even exceeding hundreds.

In SP, it basically just prevents overspeed. But irl, there are more effects on engine efficiency and reliability.

Air density changes depending on the altitude. The higher you go, the lesser air. So you'll have to adjust the blades for more thrust.
The in game propellers already does that.
