tutourial making rotators less wobbly

100k winterro  one year ago

So, i was experimenting, and found out how the wobblyness works.

So, if you are building a mech and need to limit wobble theres one thing that works for me.

How wobble works is, the less parts between rotators, the worse wobble is.

I discovered this while working on starscream. as you know, transformers have a lot of moving parts. and every time i added a fusalage between the shoulder rotators, the better the arm functioned.

  • one fusalage = 80% power loss
  • two fusalages = 60% power loss
  • three fusalages = 40% power loss
  • four fusalages = 20% power loss
  • five fusalages = <10% power loss

@crazyplaness same applies to control bases

You could try to use control bases instead of rotators maybe

I like a positive wiper with a reverse wiper,It won't move like this,So is my latest steering wheel

something i used to do is to add mass on the rotator and add it in an increment of 5 until it's not that bad anymore

Just remembered, you can add damperMulriplier to joint rotator section and give it a value like 10000 to make them turn smoothly. You will have to tweak the number a little depending on the situation.

@jamesPLANESii yes, pretty much, though I always thought that it was weird while also being quite realistic on some occasions. I guess it has its moments

great, I'm going to see how this can improve wing-flex

    Edit: nvm 🙄

This is mainly due to mass, even if there is no mass on the rotating part, but only on the base (like ships), rotator will still wobble.

interesting, i wonder if this is because back when rotators were first added to make something bigger you added more blocks

@overlord5453 what if those fuselages didn’t have any?

Wait, wouldn't the added weight make it even more wobbly?
