A Bad thing about New update of SP Android.

78.3k KSB24  7 months ago

Since before the update of the Simpleplanes Android version, i was able to play the game 120 fps (at least when the phone's not heating up), but after i installed an update, i can see that there's two options added to choose: 30fps and 60fps. But That's All !. I guess that it's for preventing the game causing the problem on hardware, but the maximum limit is a 60fps? Srsly? At 2023??

@WNP78 cool! Thanks for the info.

In my personal opinion, uncapped fps would be a very nice feature.

@32 we did add the target framerate setting on android in this update, because we basically weren't sure why it was disabled on that platform. Seems like some people had uncapped framerates before and we weren't aware. I guess it didn't even cross my mind that someone would want to run a flight sim at 120fps on a mobile phone xD. We'll probably add an option in the menu to uncap the framerates to mimic the old behaviour.

@WNP78 Is it possible that 3rd-party fps counters would count past what the game capped at? that would explain this video I think
Although I'm not sure if there actually is a frame limit on the pc version

@5 that's true, I was mistaken about how hz to fps works. Now I wish the framerate was uncapped so I could have 120 fps lol

@WNP78 (first i thank you to come here.) If your word "Before" is meaning previous version, there was no any options to limit/set the FPS. So the game was be able to go reached 120fps at least not my phone is heating.

How were you setting your target FPS before? Was it just uncapped by default?

When I tested on my device, I was able to get 30 fps on the 30 fps setting, and 60 on the 60 fps setting. However, unless your phone is extremely expensive, your screen’s refresh rate will likely not be high enough to display more than about 60 fps. This means that 120 fps is kinda useless most of the time.

Edit: this is pretty much totally false lol, the unit of conversion is just 1 hz to 1 fps and even some of the cheapest phones have a 90 hz screen.

@KSB24 nvm, actually, when i set it to 60, the game becomes WAY too buttery smooth, no lag or delay when spawning in ai, it just pops in almost immediately, making them almost completely unusable.

@DatMaluchGuy19 Yes, i also guessing same as like you, but if then, the Developers of SP Should Give the right to choose the way to set the 120fps to Maximum for the users who owning Device that can make higher performance, but they didn't.. Sad.

@RepublicOfCursedPlanes umm.. but if that is an Minimum rate, why the framerate NEVER increase higher than 60 or 30(According to the Setting)? The setting works like Maximum Limit and make the FPS Not to increase any more.

@KSB24 they’re talking about target framerate, which refers to the minimum framerate that SP needs to achieve.
Basically, all they’re saying is that you can set the absolute lowest framerate on your device to 30-60FPS. There is no limit to how high your framerate can be.
So in fact, this feature is actually better, not worse.

@RepublicOfCursedPlanes you are right, whenever sp runs like butter, (usually on my end at least) it always slowly but surelly gets laggy, the more i run sp for any longer, usually followed up by my phone heating up, At least, if i spawn in things for my up and coming ARG (alternate reality game)

    @RepublicOfCursedPlanes
According to the change log (written in Google play and official website post)

Allow changing target framerate in main menu settings on Android

Yes they Allowed it ,but that the limit of allowing is only between 30 and 60. Also i tried to tap the option added in the settings menu very much, but there are only two ways i can choose.

@Superliner350 mate, i dont think framerate was the issue here at all, the REAL issue are the experimental beta on pc, which still wasn't released on android yet, it has tons of bugs, but i think most of not all of them are at least fixed after people told the dev that there are some flaws here and there.

@KSB24 @Superliner350 I think the “30FPS” and “60FPS” options are for minimum framerate.
I’d assume this because the change log says “ Increased default target framerate to 60”.

That's why we will not install SP update on our android.
Simpleplanes now sucks, worse than before.
