Building is Tiring

warning: likely waste of your time
sigh
Okay, so I’ve been building the stationair for about 6 weeks now. The first three weeks were kind of chill because it was the exterior. But now…working on cockpits is really tedious. (especially when you want it to be Realistic AND Functional) Today I was working on the elevator and rudder trim wheel things and the flaps lever (I’m trying to make them VR capable, cause I’m crazy) and oh my there’s not nearly enough space in the cockpit of a cessna! Half the buttons and switches are hidden by the yoke irl so I have had to move them all around. And then, scaled to real size they are all too small to use in SP.
I’ve also reached 530 parts. I have no clue how, but I’m not the best at making efficient use of parts so that’s probably why. Aaaannd…I haven’t started the livery yet. I hope that a 600-700 part count doesn’t deter people from downloading because I want people to be able to enjoy my work. (I enjoy my own planes too, but flying a plane isn’t as enjoyable once you’ve done a hundred test flights)

If you read this, this was probably a waste of your time. I’m sorry.

These are my struggles…
sighs again

It’s nice too see I’m not the only one. I suppose this game is called simple planes for a reason :)

@jamesPLANESii I think I'm basically making X-Plane but SP. And yes, everything will work, such as an advanced autopilot, and a waypoint system, among many other things.

    true
Before I used to make planes in 2 days or less, now it takes me (minimum) one week to finish.
all because of the level of detail that has increased (especially in the cockpit, as I've been doing cockpit almost 100% custom.

But a while ago I tried to make some cockpits COMPLETELY custom cockpit (things like throttles and joysticks) and none of the projects with that were finished, I really couldn't take it :/

Honestly, you're not the only one. For me, when it comes to building the cockpit, building progress slows to a snails pace. To make a realistic one, it's so much work and effort that goes into minimal reward. I mean, giving your plane a cockpit almost doubles its upvote score and makes users more excited for your future builds, but it quadruples the work, and making a cockpit is really janky and isn't supported very well. And making a cockpit means you need to make all the other systems more functional in your plane like making a better engine etc. Also we don't have enough customisability with the gauges, for example the arcs for the ASIs aren't adjustable (grinds my gears AF 😬) and all the gauges are from the same era and there's no realistic and normal looking artificial horizon. Also engines are basic asf and don't have basic things like mixture, realistic prop aerofoils, or temperatures so you have to improvise them yourself. Not yo mention propellers weigh like 700 KG and take a billion years to reach maximum RPM.
    .
Gee. Sounds like I should be learning how to use plane maker in X Plane. XD

Mate, I can run 8000 parts. Or even 20200 parts. Part count will not deter me from downloading anything.

It was a waste of my time, that’s why I read it.
Good planes, especially highly detailed ones take time.
You may need to take a break for a little while.
