The rules for curation

35.3k V  2.4 years ago

So i noticed that andrew never really laid out all the criteria for being curated. While there are not very many and they are quite easy to follow, people would most likely complain about not being curated if i dont list them out.

These rules are official, he told us these in private, but never made them public for some reason

1: the craft MUST have a performance cost at or below 5,000. This is a hard limit* and builds higher than it will not be curated. (If you don't know what performance cost is, its a measure of how laggy the plane is that uses multiple factors including part count, amount of funky trees, and types of parts used.) I might still curate if it runs flawlessly on my quest

2: must be mobile friendly and geared towards low physics. The oculus quest version of the game is locked at low physics unless you modify game files (which is easy to do but i will not provide an explanation, as it will cause issues down the road). Pre-1.8 mobile friendliness rules apply here.

3: must work in VR (duh). I have to be able to grab the controls and be able to use every function in the aircraft without having to use the in-game menu system. I must be able to at least use throttle, use the stick or other main control method, and be able to sit inside the cockpit as a normal human being and not as a midget or as a giant. Do not scale the seat or camera, but the grip can be scaled if you are trying to hide it inside something.
Quick tip: when using a grip, it only will work correctly if it is connected in some way to a control base via the BOTTOM connection point.

4: use the VR tag! we usually only look through that tag, as it is easier to comb through aircraft there instead of tediously looking through the regular tab.

5: provide instructions! while sure pressing buttons and seeing what they do is fun, sometimes i wanna fly around knowing what the controls are without spending 20 minutes figuring out what they are.

(Im probably missing something here, a dev will likely pin a comment about it if i indeed missed something)

If you need more tips, refer to andrew's and my post on VR cockpit building.
The @VRCollective account has exclusively VR compatible builds, and they are all great references for when you make your own cockpits

@catzilla Getting curated means that the build is approved for use in virtual reality, and will get a place in a list of curaed planes viewable in SPVR. If you are not logged in while using SPVR, you will only be able to see and use these curated planes.

I may be a little late to the party, but I had my aircraft curated, then noticed it had an issue with the alignment of the wings so I updated the XML and lost the curation

very proud of myself for managing to meet the criteria for curation despite not knowing that curation was a thing and that there were criteria :3

How many mod does VR support?

@Kangy the wonder of VR technology makes that not matter. I can readjust my position within the cockpit at any time. I just dont want to be able to use a cockpit as a party sized hot tub or have to be action figure sized to use it

@V what if you’re really small and I make the cockpit for people who are 6 foot and have big arms?

However pins this has allowed this to be known (and allowed the users to follow these rules more, giving an advantage for the curators like you).
