Platinum through forums alone?

19.3k QuitePossiblyMangled  3.7 years ago

Scenario

So you are a new user and said "You know what. Building is too much work, Im just going to get to platinum through forum posts."

Well, upon hearing that I would have one thing to tell you.

Good luck.

Numbers

So, you really are doing it you mad lad. Lets look at some numbers.

-White: 0
-Bronze: 100
-Silver: 1000
-Gold: 5000
-Platinum: 25,000
-Highest point count on website: 336,000

So, you really got your work cut out for you. Now that you have an idea of your goal you will reach, lets look at some points.

Point System

The point system of SP is pretty simple. Each upvote gives you so many points. The amount of points depends on what the user is upvoting:

-Mods: 25 points per upvote
-Video/Uploaded Creation: 15 points per upvote
-Forum: 2 points per upvote

Mods give you the most points while points gained through comments are so insignificant that we can just forget about them all together.

Putting it together

If your goal is to get platinum as fast as possible, then mods are the way to go. The average amount of points a mod gets is 39 upvotes per upload, allowing you to reach platinum in just 26 mods.

Lets say you are no coder/programmer. No problem, just go via videos and builds. For builds, the average amount of upvotes per build is about..... 3. Oh.... Well then, going off of this, you will reach platinum in only 556 builds. Luckily for you, as you progress in building, your skills and builds improve. This means the increase in your amount of upvotes per build are exponential.

For videos, the average amount of upvotes per video is 16, allowing you to reach platinum in 105 videos.

Now, back to our original situation. Forum posts on average get 7 upvotes per post. This means to achieve platinum through forum posts alone, you must make, write, and post 1,786 forum posts.

For fun lets look at how many forum post you the 0 point user would need to make to beat BogdanX (336,000 points). To tie Bogdan through the power of words alone, you will need a whooping 24,000 forum posts. You would 75 more forum posts to beat him.

Conclusion

Is it possible? Yes

Is it feasible? No

Averages were gathered by taking the total amount of upvotes of 48 posts in each category and averaging them.

Also, average does not mean you going to get 7 upvotes for a forum or at least 3 for a build. Its an average.

Update: Comment points do not offer any points what so ever. Sorry for any confusion I have may have caused.

@UtsuhoReiuji To be honest, my truck ain't lookin to good and looks like a card board box car but has the most realistic truck frame I could build, the prototype name is called Rancho at the moment thought thanks for the idea, sometimes I need some help on my next project to come up with what I want to build but I might have to rebuild the whole nentire frame. Thought I am having a new model of my 220XS coming out on the workshop called the 220SR, the performance version of it, and I'm also building a new car called the Torquie. Isn't the most creative name I've ever came up with but works. If you got any ideas you want me to build (mostly ground based vehicles) let me know and give me your ideas. Sorry I know this isn't what you qll are talking about but its an off topic type blog however you call it, just saying right now

@CoolPeach @tsampoy After researching into it, it turns out that comment upvotes do not give you a point. Sorry for the confusion.

Yeah but I’m talking like multiple successors, like points you get for successors of successors etc

    @CoolPeach ok

@CoolPeach Successors give half the amount of points and only apply to builds. This means you will gain 7.5 points from a successor build.

Could be successor points, I could be wrong though

@CoolPeach I will look into it. If true, there are still 1 point users. With forum posts giving two points, I don't know what else would allow users to have one point. Though, maybe they changed the point system a while back and I just never heard about it.

Well that’s not exactly a reliable source, I don’t think u get points for comment upvotes, pretty sure that was stated in the original post where they introduced the feature. @tsampoy

@CoolPeach I was wondering that a few days ago, now it's confirmed. It's probably because we don't notice it since the points are rounded to the nearest thousand with a decimal, instead of showing the exact points.

@CoolPeach I am not really sure. I think you get one point from them, but I have the feeling you must get a certain amount of comment upvotes before you get a single point.
