You Want Toxic? I'll Show You Toxic!

THIS IS A NUCLEAR POWERED B-36

At some point, the raving lunatics over at Strategic Air Command thought it would be a good idea to have nuclear reactors flying around thousands of feet above the ground. If the outline of the forward fuselage looks a bit different, that's because the cockpit had to be insulated with many tons of lead to protect the crew from all the lethal radiation given off by the reactor mounted toward the center of the plane.

On the plus side, the Nuclear Peacemaker had an unlimited range, assuming the crew didn't get hungry or something. Thankfully, this particular bad idea never made it into production.

Note the size comparison between the two planes. That B-29 (actually, a B-50) is flying right next to the Peacemaker, even though it looks very far away because it is so much smaller.

@Hellosss38 Sorry, I'm not building this one. I'd love to see one made, but I just finished a strategic bomber and I'm kinda done with them for a while.

@Ryn176 Assuming the maintenance crew had adequate protective gear, I can't imagine it would've been much worse than the mechanical nightmare the B-36 already presented. Its engines weren't designed for reverse-installation and often had cooling and icing issues. Each of the 6 engines had 28 pistons, a turbocharger and a supercharger and that was on top of the 4 jet engines to take care of.
