Funky Trees Magic: Computerized Bombsight

66.6k SnoWFLakE0s  4.4 years ago

It bloody works. I'm crying. It took me a good 3 hours to get it to work, but here it is. All that was wrong was just one letter... reminds me of when I was learning code. Anyway, do as you will with my work here:

Although I will point out a few things- this assumes that the rotator is completely horizontally stable, and also that there is no left-right deviation. You have to be flying in a completely straight line for this to work. That isn't too much of a problem with the new autopiloting mechanisms we can make, though!

Here's a demo of the bombsight.

It's been released as a build!

is there some way to delay when an input is activated through the use of funky tree commands.?

Example - a rotator with input=Activate1 and min-max=0,1. Activating group no.1 will move this rotator after a set amount of seconds.

Wow I am totally upvoting that mathematical equation which only a real math nerd could handle. TWO HUGE THUMBS UP.
But, seriously... I hate your brain ;)

Weapons Guidance is realistically impossible with mere inputs... At least with what we have now.

    Remember @WeaverFish and his B-17's bombsight ?
Well, I think we've found its true successor.

I haven't considered it too much- I believe TAS might be more accurate, if I can manage the time today I'll go and test it to see which performs better.

@SnoWFLakE0s would IAS be accurate in this instance at high altitude? During my testing at 7km with one of my planes, IAS was only around 250kmh when TAS showed 630 or sokKmh

You madman, and here I was needing a butt ton of outside help to route both trim and pitch to one rotator and to model control compress-ability.

If you've read my work at all, you'll understand that

    1. This calculates the ballistic trajectory of a "dropped" projectile
    2. The system assumes a free-fall trajectory- no deviation.

This system is not for guiding bombs, but for estimating where the bomb will hit. Although, I am fairly sure you'll be able to make guided bombs if you really try.

Sure, I'll release the input statement code once I release it as a build!

You’ve done it, you’ve finally done it! Fantastic work! Can you put it at the bottom so we can copy it into our builds?

Gah, it's nothing beyond a basic HS physics course. The hard part was typing everything right and not forgetting things.
