About COPPA, again.

Read this post first for more context.

As we may have already know, the FTC fined YouTube a sweet $180 million for breaking the COPPA rule, an old rule created in 1998. This forces YouTube to update their own rules to comply with COPPA. This new rule forces channels to choose whether their content is for kids or not. The thing is, if the FTC consider your markings as false (e.g. you mark your content as not for kids but the FTC thinks your content is for kids) you'll get a fine of around $42000, PER VIDEO, but it's still not clear. This will largely impact the community and platform itself, with many creators expected to leave the platform after the rule takes place.

But it's YouTube's thing, how would it impact our community here on SimplePlanes?
Simple. The videos section. Since video posts host videos from YouTube, changes on YouTube change how we post videos as well. So, even if you post your videos unlisted to be hosted, the FTC will still be able to catch it, since unlisted videos can still obviously be shared over links.

But it is not too late to change everything. You can leave a comment on the FTC website, but please be civil.

@asteroidbook345 Chadtronic did his own research, he even reached out to one of YouTube's staff.
Also did you just mention press? Throw them out the window, the media has never been a trusted source anyway.

    I'm confused
Does for kids mean it is strictly for kids or does it mean it is safe for kids

You wont get that big of a fine. It's up to that much and even that is unlikely unless you're a big youtuber that on purpose marks your very no child friendly videos as child friendly.
