The idea behind the post was just along the lines of "include more specifics in what type of stuff you want to build. i.e., WWII, futuristic, jet, prop, experimental, etc."
Ranks aren't important. Just be friendly and make planes that you like because you want to or think they are cool. Do it for no one else. You're not a factory, you're an artist!
There is a feature in 1.3 called self destruct. By default, it's set to the D key. Check that under controls and see if that isn't the issue. If it doesn't fix it, upload the plane and tag me on it. I'll take a look.

Also don't worry about points. Make planes you like, and let the upvotes be secondary.
