The Ohio-class submarines are equipped with Trident II (D5) submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs), which form the core of their strategic offensive capabilities. The missiles have a range of approximately 4,000 nautical miles and can be equipped with multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs), allowing each missile to carry up to 12 warheads.
