The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is a supersonic interceptor aircraft that was first introduced in the late 1950s. Designed for high speed and high altitude operations, the F-104 was known for its distinctive, narrow fuselage and sharply swept wings. It was used extensively by the U.S. Air Force and also saw service with numerous allied nations. The aircraft had a reputation for being fast and agile, but also for having challenging handling characteristics, particularly at low speeds and during takeoffs and landings. Despite these issues, the F-104 played a significant role in Cold War air defense and was a notable part of aerospace history.
