@Panzer828 Best flying things? As far as I know, no bird has broken the sound barrier, or carried hundreds of passengers across the Pacific, or flown at 90,000 feet... from where I stand, we humans are beating the pants off birds.
@Zanedavid Well, I'm going to make at least a few more artillery pieces. The problem with tanks is the absence of a tank tracks part. I hate the dirty hacks people have to use to simulate tracks.
Wow, that was quick. This is pretty good for a target drone, but doesn't really fly straight and level enough. For me at least, it flies in gentle circles.
@Panzer828 Hmm, I don't know, just make whatever you want to make... maybe a bomber that flies at a very stable speed and altitude so it can be shot down?
@ChisP Oh ok, the timing of your comment left me confused and I thought I was still talking to Panzer828. Each flexible shape is made out of a bunch of airbrakes, with their inputs and positions set so that when they open, they form the final extended shape.
@klm747klm747 Yeah, it's trivial to get the equation for projectile motion from the internet and plug in the numbers. It's especially easy because the cannon shells aren't affected by air drag or wind. When I made my first Snowstone-destroying mortar I did it with a bomb cannon, and that took a lot of tries, because bombs are affected by air drag.
If you want to be really nerdy you can save the locations, get the coordinates from CloudSettings.xml, and calculate the exact angles and muzzle velocity.
I did look at your aircraft again. It's impressive, but I wish the developers had enabled the new input system with control surfaces as well. Having to use rotators for control surfaces just makes me go ugh.
@Panzer828 Feynman is about as boring as the center of the sun is cold. If you like reading, start with "Surely you're joking." Otherwise check out some videos on YouTube.
@Panzer828 The more complicated it is, the more valuable it'll be when you finally get your head around it. Keep up the good work, the world needs engineers.
Thermodynamics can be confusing, but wait till you get to quantum mechanics. Have you read anything by or about Richard Feynman?
@Panzer828 Oh, the interceptor challenge. As I said, I'm not gonna enter. I will post a build that meets the specs I outlined, though. I've just been busy with other stuff (like this build).
If you want more realistic examples of variable-geometry aircraft I have the Tu-22 Backfire and the Panavia Tornado.
@Thefuriouschicken @Diloph Well, I don't know about mobile, but on desktop, you can control the VTOL with Z and X even if the VTOL slider isn't visible. If mobile doesn't have a similar option, add a zero-mass VTOL thrustport to the build and the VTOL slider will become visible.
Thanks, @ThisIsMyCreativeUsername @Subnerdica

Thanks, @ChisP
Why, thank you, @AWESOMENESS360
@Panzer828 It does look like a bird, now that you mention it...
@Zanedavid Well, I'm going to make at least a few more artillery pieces. The problem with tanks is the absence of a tank tracks part. I hate the dirty hacks people have to use to simulate tracks.
@Mercyaircraftcorporation Yeah, well, the UI could be better.
@Mercyaircraftcorporation You can "add to favorites," you know...
@Treadmill103 I've never had this much fun just flying around :)
Thanks, @ThisIsMyCreativeUsername
@Treadmill103 Thanks. It's doable -- you can hit the inside of the far lip of the volcano... but only just :)
Thanks, @Mustang51
@ChisP Well, I write some code for this stuff very frequently, at least a couple of days a week. So it's hard to say how long any one thing took.
@Panzer828 You can make almost anything fly straight in SP :) I have to log off now, but I can give you some guidelines tomorrow if you like.
@Panzer828 Not sure what you mean...
Wow, that was quick. This is pretty good for a target drone, but doesn't really fly straight and level enough. For me at least, it flies in gentle circles.
@Panzer828 This is just a fun build, the geared, fully-mechanical version will happen soon.
@Panzer828 Go for it.
@Panzer828 Well, it's just a suggestion, if you want to make something else, go for it.
@Panzer828 Hmm, I don't know, just make whatever you want to make... maybe a bomber that flies at a very stable speed and altitude so it can be shot down?
@Panzer828 Sure, one Flak 88 coming up.
@ChisP Oh ok, the timing of your comment left me confused and I thought I was still talking to Panzer828. Each flexible shape is made out of a bunch of airbrakes, with their inputs and positions set so that when they open, they form the final extended shape.
@Diloph It's just an extension of this digital gauge.
@hassimojay Well, after nearly three years I should be good. There's some talent involved as well, I'm sure.
@Irobert55 One thousand :)

@Trijets Oh, believe me, I know that there's nothing wrong with it. Everything is more than right with it :)
Thanks, @Treadmill103. Precision artillery is so much fun :)
@DeathStalker627 It's not really an artillery computer, just a timer + bearing + elevation readout.
@Panzer828 Feynman is about as boring as the center of the sun is cold. If you like reading, start with "Surely you're joking." Otherwise check out some videos on YouTube.
I'm signing off now, but will be back tomorrow.
@Panzer828 The more complicated it is, the more valuable it'll be when you finally get your head around it. Keep up the good work, the world needs engineers.
Thermodynamics can be confusing, but wait till you get to quantum mechanics. Have you read anything by or about Richard Feynman?
Thanks, @Romanchik
@Panzer828 Yeah, it has to run on those abysmal devices called "mobiles," after all.
Engineering is always good. Aeronautics?
@Panzer828 Ah yes, that's the first time I've heard mention of Boyd's E-M theory on SP. Are you a pilot?
@Panzer828 Yeah, Tu is for Tupolev :)
I just checked out your plane, it handles pretty well. You've clearly got a pretty good grasp of flight handling. What's MER, by the way?
@Panzer828 Oh, the interceptor challenge. As I said, I'm not gonna enter. I will post a build that meets the specs I outlined, though. I've just been busy with other stuff (like this build).
If you want more realistic examples of variable-geometry aircraft I have the Tu-22 Backfire and the Panavia Tornado.
@PointlessWhyshouldi You could say that.
Thanks, @EliteArsenals24
@ChisP Er, I don't do challenges. I wasn't even aware there was a variable-geometry challenge on.
@Panzer828 Er, what challenge?
@Panzer828 I've made variable-geometry aircraft before, most recently this one. But yeah, your comment definitely had some input.
I plan to make a more conventional airplane with the same technique, I just need to refine it a bit more first.
Also, 4 more days until...?
@ChisP SledDriver Industries :)
On a serious note, though, which bit do you mean? The flexible shape, the paint scheme, or the afterburner effect?
@ChisP You mean zero rotators later, right?
@Trijets Well, I don't find airliners that interesting, but maybe I'll give it a go.
Thanks, @FlyingThings, where have you been?
@Thefuriouschicken @Diloph Well, I don't know about mobile, but on desktop, you can control the VTOL with Z and X even if the VTOL slider isn't visible. If mobile doesn't have a similar option, add a zero-mass VTOL thrustport to the build and the VTOL slider will become visible.
@Diloph It's in the instructions.... VTOL up: high-speed configuration.
@ChallengerHellcat I'll see what I can do.
@ChallengerHellcat Color you can have plenty of, as seen on my recent builds... it's the patterns that wouldn't work.
@ChallengerHellcat That's an interesting idea, but remember that you can't get patterns like on a peacock's tail using this technique.
