They do, but less than a vote on a plane does - I think it's only two. Grandfathered points are the points you got given when the site converted from the old star ratings to the new upvote system
I'm really impressed by how this captures the sense of a really janky, rough-worn old service plane, I don't think I've seen that on anything on this game before. Great fun to fly, and a nice change of pace from maxed-out fighters, not to mention the stellar effort on the interior
Okay, so I tried it with 26 BFE120s attached to 12,000 gallons of fuel and all I succeeded in doing was tilting it a bit and crashing the app, because my phone sucks. However, it definitely tilted! So we know this is doable, you just need to bring absurd levels of firepower.
That aside, my favourite implication of this is that it's probably also possible to lift the USS Tiny completely out of the water given enough thrust/lift
I don't think anyone has figured out what actually causes this yet, but try mirroring it from the opposite side from usual. This seems to solve it some of the time.
Nice build! I uploaded a tweaked version of this with a few changes to make it a little more agile - I hope you like it. I tried to keep things as close as possible to the original. I changed the wings a little to move the CoL closer to the CoM, and inverted the control surfaces on the canards. Any pitch surfaces which are ahead of the CoL need to be inverted to work properly. Lastly, welcome to SimplePlanes!
@BestAircraft thank you! I managed to figure out a solution that preserves the appearance without too much of a performance hit, but your efforts are appreciated
@BaconEggs you get to use the Red Bull X2010, the challenge is to race it against Sebastian Vettel. I think you have to get level 30 or 40 on A-spec to unlock it, or complete every A-spec championship or something. It's so difficult, I can barely react fast enough haha
@TomTheBuilder is the latest update worthwhile? I used to play it with my flatmate but kinda stopped after he had to move away. The Scourge of the Corruptor was awesome
You can make it work but it will virtually always require some degree of dihedral on the wings to simulate a vertical stabiliser. In real life, planes can have fly-by-wire systems that constantly apply tiny yaw corrections to negate the need for yaw stability, but that's not an option available to us. You might be interested in the entries to this challenge, though
@Mrkumqaut oh do you need 30 points to upvote things now? I didn't know that. Lemme finish the build I'm working on and then I'll check out your planes!
@Mrkumqaut yeah, it's just because when you're in the builder, structural panels and wings have visible roots so you can see where they attach. They disappear when you start the level
No need to justify yourself mate, play what you want when you want. We'll be glad to see your builds whenever you get around to them! Also, I enjoyed that sign-off at the end
I'm all about dat Civ V just now. I'm playing a game as Sweden on a huge Europe map with every other European civ, no city states, and domination victory only. It's brutal, it's about 425 turns in and I've just become the first to get airplanes.
Other than that, I share @BaconEggs love for Gran Turismo 5, but I've not been able to play for a while because I left the PlayStation with my brother when I moved out a few years back. Did you ever manage to complete the Red Bull challenge?
Agar.io is pretty great too, but I've only made it to number one a few times
@goboygo1 I haven't, mostly on principle; I don't like to mod my planes in any way that affects performance. The only time I've done so was for a replica that was limited by appearance to a pair of small engines. However, if you want to add one yourself, feel free!
Just create a new account with some free email service and don't use it for anything. I have an email address used exclusively for signing up to things that I don't want to give my real email address to. So many thousands of spam emails never to be read, all locked away in a silent, unused inbox...
Real: it's so hard to choose, but the Su-47 probably takes the prize. Honourable mentions to the Saab 21 and 35, de Havilland Sea Vixen, and the McDonnell Douglas X-36. Decisions are hard.
As for a fictional favourite, I don't know if any of you ever played the game Battle Engine Aquila on the PS2, but the Forseti Valkyries in that were just gorgeous. Sadly, the internet has forgotten that game for the most part, and I haven't ever found a decent image of it, but Lt. Fox's fighter in this video is pretty close. I'm also a big fan of the Eldar Nightwing from Warhammer 40,000.
I did an experiment with a parasite fighter and tried to get it to catch up with the carrier and land in it again - what I discovered is that lining two planes up really closely, even if one of them is just cruising along in a totally straight line, is unbelievably difficult. Or that I just suck at flying, that's also possible. But yeah, point is if we do get something like this, it would be nice to get some sort of HUD aid, like a distance readout.
@dsr1aviation every time someone tags a mod or dev with something along the lines of "feature this!", it's another notification in a very busy inbox. Whilst that's not really a big deal if one person does it, if it becomes commonplace then it rapidly overwhelms and crowds out any notifications for things the mods actually need to see.
Also, don't worry about deleting this post, it's totally okay to have a discussion about the rules, and everyone is keeping it pretty sensible
@XVIIindustries I'm a huge fan of both the Gary Moore and NIghtwish versions of Over the Hills too, it's a great tune. A sample of my own favourites, in a rough order of mellow - heavy:
@DatsunVehiclesCompany alright mate, someone making a non-stock one doesn't somehow invalidate the existing stock one, and vice versa. We can have both.
@XVIindustries Here in Glasgow we're meant to be getting subzero temperatures later this week. We're mostly just getting so much rain that even my Singaporean flatmate, who grew up dealing with southeast Asian monsoons, has been surprised by it
Oddly enough the IL-76 is one of the few planes that big that would probably have been totally fine if it had run out of paving, they're designed to not really need a properly surfaced runway. Russian runways get cracked up all to hell and back by ice, so they're extremely rough by the standards of warmer developed countries, and the planes are built with this in mind.
@ElGatoVolador
The Fairfield Kelpie for an independent Scotland (yay for alternate timelines)

Not bad at all

The island hopper one, right? I'll check it out
@CJsPlanes thank you!
It can still be found here, for those who want it
@sirtribesman I had a look about, sinking it has definitely been mentioned and done, but I don't see anything about flying it hahaha

@WaferPop thanks for the vote!
@Sergo585 thank you!
@WaferPop no worries, it was a fun plane to work on, thanks for uploading the original

If you're on mobile, it's the "share" button at the top of the left hand menu in the builder

I can confirm the site works fine with Dolphin on Android

@XVIindustries @jheffernan apparently it exists
Oh also make sure to upvote the roundel!
@Mrkumqaut yeah, it's just because when you're in the builder, structural panels and wings have visible roots so you can see where they attach. They disappear when you start the level
@Exumer uploaded a free-to-use USAF roundel here. You can download that and save it as a subassembly, and then attach it to your planes
@XVIindustries flying tea flasks? I'm in hahahaha
@XVIindustries I suppose a good challenge could lure me back in to activity haha. Any chance if a sneak preview?

@goboygo1 hahaha, thanks! I kinda wish it flew a little better (and a lot longer), but yeah, I'm pleased with how it turned out
@XVIindustries sweet, tag me in it when it's up
You could build an actual Irish plane

@Nightraider the best version

Do you mean your planes don't fly well? Or is it more about ideas or appearance?

@ElGatoVolador how come? Just never heard anything you like?
@XVIIindustries I'm a huge fan of both the Gary Moore and NIghtwish versions of Over the Hills too, it's a great tune. A sample of my own favourites, in a rough order of mellow - heavy:
Emancipator - First Snow (chillstep)
Kassidy - I Don't Know (folk-ish soft rock)
Dan Patlansky - Only an Ocean (blues)
Levellers - the Cholera Well (folk rock)
Gloryhammer - Rise of the Chaos Wizards (heroic power metal, half-parody)
Brymir - Ragnarök (melodeath)
Animals as Leaders - the Woven Web (prog metal)
@goboygo1 what's wrong then?
