For ElGatoVolador's alternative WWI post. Since we're doing alternative timelines, here is my flying boat fighter for an independent Scotland under Prime Minister Thomas McKinnon Wood. No offence to any other UKers out there, you lot are still awesome, but who wouldn't take a chance for some fanciful patriotism?

Built in hastily-converted Clyde shipyards, the Fairfield Kelpie is a large and durable flying boat intended to patrol the expanses of the highlands with minimal infrastructural support. Taking to the lochs instead of runways, these planes keep a watchful eye over many potential invasion footholds that are too far from more urbanised areas for less rugged machines. Their size is matched by heavy armament, with pusher props negating the need for any kind of gun synchronisation, allowing the Kelpie to give as good as it gets whenever the Central Powers stray too close to Scottish territory.
