If you have enough PVC piping and have access to craigslist, I can guarantee you could make one of your sand rails / buggies.
It'd be a great summer project.
best tank of ww2 in my mind is the M10 (well, M36 is just a beefed verison but i'd consider that)
in terms of GMCs, it was more protected than, lets say, a Marder or one of those ZiS tractor things
