FT = Fighter
CS = Attack aircraft/CAS aircraft
BT = Tactical Bomber
BS = strategic Bomber
BST = Strategic and Tactical bomber
EF = Electronic warfare aircraft
MV = Transport
RC = Reconnaissance
UM = Unmanned aircraft
EP = Experimental
PY = prototype

Type i - V or beyond: denotates version of the aircraft, pronounced type one type two or first type second type etc., abbreviated to T.I, T.II, T.IV etc.

When an aircraft fills more than one role its main role takes the first letter and the secondary role takes the second within reason eg fighter bomber FBS FBT Fighter recon FR
