@deusalgor I also think we should be able to edit the list of designs that fly in sandbox, but FYI the game will mark anything it can't figure out how to fly, and won't load that again.
@Cortwade Me and UnstableOrbit are working on a mod for it.
FRA (Frequently Repeated Answers, about the mod):
Nobody is getting in the beta by asking (there's not even a beta running yet, though).
We may look into Android version after PC is released, but no guarantees.
iOS is impossible because of Apple's policy on the app store.
Players host servers with an executable file (I will look into Mac and Linux executables, but I haven't got experience building to them from Visual Studio, so I don't know how it's gonna turn out).
The server executable will handle port forwarding if it can.
Servers can be LAN, just connect to the local IPv4 address of the host computer, and don't give your global IP to anyone.
Servers can ALSO be global, just give people your global IP address.
Close the game and open it again.
It's happened on my PC as well, but that fixed it for... it happened twice in one hour and hasn't happened in the day since then, so I don't know what's up.
Our current plan is to go live with this update on Steam next week if the beta goes fairly smooth. It will not be coming to mobile until the 1.4 update.
As far as mobile goes, we cannot promise specifics on anything as we continue to press the boundaries regarding how much we can stuff in the mobile version without crippling performance. When we get ready to do the mobile update for 1.4, we will do some testing and decide what we can keep and see if there is anything that needs to be cut. We will do the best we can, but the Steam version will likely always have more features that mobile.
As for the 1.4 update... things are in work and we are shooting for the end of March. Don't be the slightest bit surprised though if that deadline goes flying by. The mobile update for 1.4 will likely trail behind the Steam version by a couple weeks or more (depends on how long the review process takes for Apple).
@ShatteredAviation I don't know, maybe because once gold you generally have more followers and are more well-known, and featured is so people see something amazing that otherwise wouldn't really be noticed?
@SteadfastContracting AppData may be a hidden folder, so in the file explorer/browser, near the top there should be a "view" button or tab, click on that, then find the option "show hidden folders" and make sure it's on...
@Rohan I also liked it for that reason, but I also think it should stick to upvotes, because FAR to many people flipped out if they got a rating below 5 stars, and while yes, they should grow up, we can't make them, we'd need to constantly manage them (or continuously ban people...), and it's not worth the work and drama.
For more information on how good it was, there's the comments section, so instead of 1 star people are encouraged to say why it sucks (though it won't really stop them from just saying "it sucks", just like when ratings wanted a comment with them).
The devs have tried a few different rating systems, and the one that caused the least issues is the upvotes we have now.
@deusalgor I'm actually using SublimeText as well, but I only switched recently =D
(Also, Notepad++ doesn't complain about a license if you don't buy it, but really that doesn't stop sublimetext from functioning...)
I'd like to be able to sort either way, by hitting a button for the other...
But yeah I liked the old way more, since I prefer to know the whole conversation and scrolling to the bottom for that is generally more annoying than scrolling to the bottom for a new comment (for me...).
Copied from this link with the details (which I gave to you @TehDuck... it's not complicated, it's just long, if you want to XML mod, read it) :
How to adjust XML files (PC Version):
1) Navigate to C:\Users[your account user_name]\AppData\LocalLow\Jundroo\SimplePlanes\AircraftDesigns
2) Open the aircraft you want to hack (I use TextPad to edit in, but notepad++ works just as well).
3) Edit the attribute (such as the nose cone)
4) Save the XML then reload (open) the aircraft in Simple Planes.
I tend to save the aircraft as a backup, and edit __Editor__.xml, which is the one directly in the editor, but there's minor ups and downs to each way.
@TehDuck When I said "I don't xml edit", I actually lied, I'm just not good at explaining, and I'm not the nicest when I need to explain after giving a perfectly functional link with all the directions you need.
@TehDuck Since that's a thing (Notebook++) maybe you heard from someone else...? But I'd recommend Notepad++, which is more of a text and code editor, where Notebook++ seems to be more of a... well it's for notes, not code and general text.
@TehDuck Notepad++ is free, sublime text has a free trial that goes on forever but tells you you need to purchase the license, even though you can continue using it.
XML modding is done with a text editor, not Unity.
Unity is used for real mods, which can add anything to the game, do anything.
If you want to Unity mod, check the tutorials here
@IStoleYourMeme @KingDeadshot No prank, in steam you need to opt into the beta, from library right click SimplePlanes, got to properties, "BETAS" tab, and select "public-test - Public test" from the list (options should be "none" and the public test), also no beta access code is required, leave it blank.
Do'h! I meant to upload an image which showed the CoM/CoL (yes, it existed, but it didn't have center of thrust), and the parts in propulsion... well, I'll upload that tomorrow... or something XD
There's nothing against it in the rules, but English is the "standard" (most people here know it), and most people might not understand you in another language... and google translate sucks for many languages.
I would absolutely LOVE Oculus Rift support (and/or any of the other VR options out there). I suspect it would be a big undertaking to get it working however and unfortunately at this time, there are so few players that could take advantage of it, that it doesn't make a lot of sense to invest the time in it right now. The world of gaming is changing however and VR is becoming more of a thing so who knows... ;-)
That being said... I will admit that I've pulled out my Oculus Rift dev kit from the original kickstarter and have fiddled around with it in SimplePlanes. The menu was impossible to navigate so I had to do some really really bad temporary hacking of the game and also getting lucky with some mouse clicks I couldn't see... but once I got flying.... it was pretty amazing :-) Maybe someday....
I think it would be a fantastic project for any modders out there.......
@ShatteredAviation the resizable wheels aren't landing gear (maybe they'll also have landing gear), it's just a wheel which can hook up to an engine... that's why the email said monster trucks XD
But you could use it and a rotator to make landing gear, though it sadly would operate with the normal landing gear button I don't think :/
@BlueHawk game engine or engine in SimplePlanes? If engine in SimplePlanes, you have to use Unity for a totally new one, but you can xml edit :p
If your own game engine, yes you can, but that's a lot of work, and Unity is already cross-platform and handles the annoying stuff... however yes if you really want to, you can of course write your own game engine.
@BlueHawk my opinion? Better?
My preferred language is C#, I didn't really like python a lot, but it really depends on what you're using it for and what works for you.
Note: if you want to use it with Unity, you can't use python, though they had a language with syntax that is "python inspired" called "boo", they stopped supporting it and I don't know for sure if you can actually use it anymore...
@jsaret Yep!
Thanks :)
I understand being unsure if it will actually release, just take note of how long Skyrim's multiplayer mods are taking (though that's a bigger game with far more things to sync, less stock mod support, and several other things, but even laying the base took them a long time, and they're really not even "done" yet...).
@jsaret The mod isn't just local, UnstableOrbit is in New Jersey and I'm in New York, and we did that preview. (LAN also works, I've tested that with friends and family inside my local network).
Edit: We also did a short test, early on, with one of the SP devs, who was in Saint Louis.
Successors happen automatically, unless people used a certain exploit, and you can check successors by going to your plane, scrolling down to specifications>General Characteristics>Successors... if it doesn't show successors, nobody has uploaded a successor (or they used the exploit)
@deusalgor I also think we should be able to edit the list of designs that fly in sandbox, but FYI the game will mark anything it can't figure out how to fly, and won't load that again.
Edit: edit not exit... haha... seriously though.

@MediocrePlanes umm... I didn't play mobile much so I'm not sure :(
It's the corsair that was a stock plane in the game, so it easily could be.
@mattmck yep, it was totally awesome when you built a flawless plane, only for it to blow up on the magical snag zone on the runway =D
Do'h! I meant to upload an image which showed the CoM/CoL (yes, it existed, but it didn't have center of thrust), and the parts in propulsion... well, I'll upload that tomorrow... or something XD
Hey guys, I took some screenshots of SP alpha v0.1, here's the post, that's all I'm doing for today, maybe more tomorrow or something :)
@Skua I'm trying to imagine end of 2016 image... flying monster truck transformer with to many weapons?
There's nothing against it in the rules, but English is the "standard" (most people here know it), and most people might not understand you in another language... and google translate sucks for many languages.
@MediocrePlanes lol, I just reported as a reminder... I was like 5 seconds late :/
it doesn't work anymore... it shows edit page but when I hit submit the changes are ignored XD

@Skua oooooooh, that would make sense...

Is this only in relation to spam?
@jamer57108 no problem, not many people really know about it.
@AeroEngineering yeah um... I've got access to: a kindle fire HDX 8.9 inch, house phone, and a piece of dung phone that can't handle any good apps...
P.S. while all my exuces are true, I'm really just lazy :p
@AeroEngineering I don't have any VR to work with, though XD
@AeroEngineering I knew I should have left out that part (and maybe the link) :p
@NathanMikeska said this about 2 months ago:

You have been permanently banned. Do not use alternate accounts.
I think it's pretty clear...

@Leonidas1210 mod is not finished, and Android isn't guaranteed or priority, plus iOS is impossible.
