@satanplane You'd be surprised how many people on the internet go wild for old German submarines. There haven't been many sims as good as Silent Hunter 3.
@TexJohnston I don't really see the point in recreating the bomb-tube. It was dangerous as hell and the Navy never used it, even for practice. Anyway, youll get better with time, most of the really fancy stuff is just mods anyway. Finetuner and Overloader.
This is so Cool! It's like a Vigilante and a Phantom II got blended together, combining the best and ignoring the worst! It flies well too, how much time did you put into making this thing?
@ChasingHorizon US had better ships. Yamato was big, but BB's didn't win the war, especially not when America can decode your comms and you sport inferior radar. That's not to say Japan didn't have some great ships and great captains, they did.
@SajabAerospace Great! The main visual difference (aside from the camera lenses themselves) is the nose. Foxbat' s nose was designed around a MONSTROUS radar, but such heavy and expensive equipment is unnecessary for ground attack or recon. So the RB features a narrower nose and does not have a large, dark cone of dielectric material at the tip.
Man, I am really excited that more people (you) are taking an interest in this jet. It really was an amazing mix of cutting edge design and wildly outdated equipment. Like some kind of stainless steel monster, designed by mad scientists.
Hitler bit off more than he could chew, America bombed the crap out of almost everyone and Stalin ended up the big winner. Anything else you want to know?
Actually, if you want to learn about a really brutal and fascinating piece of WWII, read about the Winter War in Finland. Finnish pilots, flying outdated aircraft, racked up the highest kill rate in aeronautical history. And that's just the aerial part of the conflict, on the ground it was even more brutal. Ever heard of a Molotov cocktail? Finnish troops invented that name.
Cool! Which Foxbat are you going to do? I made a Foxbat-P, early model interceptor. I've also seen a very good Foxbat-PU two-seat trainer on here somewhere. In my opinion, no one has paid much attention to the Foxbat-RB recon/bomber variant yet, and I would love to see one. Recon missions are super dangerous, and no one ever builds the planes except the Blackbird. Anyway, check mine out, let me know what can be improved, ok?
@SuperSpeedyTurtle You just have to keep practicing. If you see something on here you like, download it and pull it apart to see how it works. That's how I figured stuff out, that and posting questions in the forums.
Before seeing this, I had never considered how well the tools in this game might lend themselves to Art-Deco designs. This is really beautiful work you've done here, thank you for making it.
-EDIT- GREAT VIDEO! That landing was hilarious, but you pulled it off. The pod is a radar jammer, and I am so glad you like the air brakes, they're my favorite part. THANK YOU for featuring my plane.
@CRJ900Pilot Hmmm, I'll check that out later today. That may have come from when I copy-pasted into the challenge post so it would register as a predecessor. You might need to re-attach and re-nudge the rotor and door. If I can find the problem on my end, I'll post a fix for you later today.
@EternalDarkness The F104 and F105 were both extremely fast at low altitude, thanks to low drag and high wing loading. I've found that in Simpleplanes, you usually have to choose between realistic performance up high or down low. For my Foxbat, it was up high. For the Thud, it had to be down low. I am very pleased that you like it.
@ChiChiWerx I had modded the mass of the rotors and it messed them up, after changing them to 10x mass, the problem was lessened, and now the gear works great. As for the speed I think I used like 5x or something, I modeled the performance off of low altitude (mach 1.1 @ sea level) and just ignored the high altitude stuff. Thuds flew low and fast, flying high would just make you SAM bait over North Vietnam.
@Shmexysmpilot Well, after a brief search, it seems his solution is to make the landing gear itself the source of the mass, rather than the plane, that way the rotors are less stressed. Just crazy enough to work I guess!
@Shmexysmpilot Damn, we think alike! I was experimenting with hidden double wheels a few minutes ago. It helped a bit with the wheels, but the fuselage "bars" still travelled around quite a bit, I will scour Baconeggs posts and see what I can see. And now, for a second time, THANK YOU.
@Shmexysmpilot Hmmmm, the mass increase certainly made the plane handle more realistically, and had a LOT less effect on top speed than I expected (seemingly none at higher altitudes). Now I can't seem to figure out why my custom landing gear is so springy! I disabled suspension on the tires, so I doubt it's the wheels, even the fuselage blocks and rotors bounce around. Is this an unintended consequence of nudging or scaling or what?

A great tribute to one of the most innovative ships ever devised.
The livery is quite striking, reminds me of TRON. I like it.
Nice!
Man, you got this thing looking real good. Especially the nose and the twin-tail. The time you put out into this thing really shows, awesome work!
You make great builds, remarkably quickly! Sometimes you'll have 2 or 3 on the front page in the same week and I think to myself, "How does he do it?"
Now that we have gyros to keep things from flipping, why not try building an airship?
Legos?
Gonna do a Sikorsky Skycrane? They're pretty neato.

Do an old sub chaser. Maybe a WW2 Japanese design. Something that worked long and tirelessly, and never got the credit it deserved.

Don't sweat it Tex, this one is more realistic.
WOW!
@SuperSpeedyTurtle You just have to keep practicing. If you see something on here you like, download it and pull it apart to see how it works. That's how I figured stuff out, that and posting questions in the forums.
@BaconRoll Yeah, it does
@SuperSpeedyTurtle it just takes time, don't sweat it
@Baconartor9000 10/10 Would die again!
@Benjaminair Thank you very much!
@ChaMikey Not really, but the rest of us had fun WATCHING. LOLOLOL
@ChaMikey Thanks man! Trying to get this thing to VTOL is hilarious, sometimes I force guests to try to fly it.
VIGI, HELL YEAH! Recon planes like this are so cool, and this one probably had the most dangerous job of all!
This is... wow.
Before seeing this, I had never considered how well the tools in this game might lend themselves to Art-Deco designs. This is really beautiful work you've done here, thank you for making it.
@TexJohnston I'm glad you noticed! I try to choose under-appreciated planes that were important for their time. Welcome to S-P!
@Franticmatty Thanks! You got a YT channel?
-EDIT- GREAT VIDEO! That landing was hilarious, but you pulled it off. The pod is a radar jammer, and I am so glad you like the air brakes, they're my favorite part. THANK YOU for featuring my plane.
@CRJ900Pilot https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/9njshN/F-105D-Thunderchief-fix There it is. Good catch!
@Ian1231100 Lol
@planelover400 @Tang0five @helilover03 Thanks fellas, I'm glad you enjoy it.

@Zerokiller3 Me too! My favorite of the Century Series.

@NativeChief1492 Sure thing! Take all the time you want, heaven knows I took forever myself.
@Ian1231100 @phanps Thank you!
These canard jets always look like spaceships to me. Beautiful work.
@MasterLobster @TMach5 @DeezDucks Thanks guys, I hope you enjoy flying it.
@CRJ900Pilot HEY thanks man!

@NativeChief1492 Yeah, I'd love to see what you can come up with.
@Shmexysmpilot I think I can make it work, I was able to land it even without goofing around with the landing gear. Thanks again.
@Shmexysmpilot Well, after a brief search, it seems his solution is to make the landing gear itself the source of the mass, rather than the plane, that way the rotors are less stressed. Just crazy enough to work I guess!
Can't believe I missed this awesome build. You've done a really amazing aircraft justice with this one.

@Shmexysmpilot I will give that one a shot, it sounds promising, thank you
@Kerbango @Tully2001 Thanks fellas
