  • What aircraft is fastest? 2.2 years ago

    Depends on what you mean by ‘fastest’.

    In general, the North American X-15 gets the official highest speed record of any aerial vehicle, hitting a top speed of Mach 6.7 at an altitude of over 19 miles. She achieved this speed using the XLR99, which was basically a liquid fuel rocket engine. This makes sense as it was effectively a rocket with a cockpit attached to it.

    The fastest aircraft with an air breathing engine was the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird with the record speed of Mach 3.3 at an altitude of around 16 miles. She achieved these speeds with the Pratt Whitney J58, an engine which could transition from a turbojet into a hybrid ramjet at higher altitudes.

    As for the fastest aircraft currently in service, and don’t quote me on this, I believe is the MiG-25 reaching a maximum safe speed of 2.83 mach. It can go around 3.2 Mach, but not without damaging itself.

    Edit: Not including any orbital vehicles here since there’s a thin line that separates aircraft and spacecraft.

    I can’t say I’ve ever had the experience of rats nibbling my toes as I sleep.

  • Down with the bees! 2.2 years ago

    @Michiganstatepolice
    Also partly incorrect. They compete against each other for food, there’s never a clear victor in natural completion. As I said, who outcompetes the other depends on a variety of factors and it’s not a one sided fight. There are over 3000 species of bees in North America alone. It’s not just the Honeybees and the Bumblebees competing.

    Also the European Honeybee is in fact suffering mass deaths and disappearances. I encourage you to look up Colony Collapse Disorder, an event in which the majority of the workers either die or disappear due to mechanisms which we still don’t understand, though it could be due to pesticides or mites. Bumblebees do not suffer from CCD for reasons which we again, do not understand.

    Do not hit me with the ‘but I did research’. I literally study these types of things as a student. We’re not making this an argument. These are the facts, take them or leave them.

    Favorite movie hmmm… Good question.

    For the sake of judging, out of all my favorites based on amount of times viewed and most impact on me, either Aliens, Titanic, or Twister

    Got a lot of favorites, can’t put one above the rest. Also love War of the Worlds (both the 1953 and 2005 versions), majority of the Studio Ghibli films, the original Godzilla, the 90s Gamera Trilogy… yada yada yada.

    White ranks on their way to make successors that only detach the nose without paying attention to anything else:

    This plane (N93118) not even being the plane from the accident flight (N93119). This aircraft is literally still in service with the Iranian Air Force.

    @LM0418
    Tbh, I was going to do a custom (or at least mostly custom cockpit) but then the original build bugged out and I had to restart everything. Then once I got back to where I was, I tried using multi edit to move a cockpit interior from one of @JP11 planes. But then that didn’t work so at the end of my patience I just detached the whole nose section and then reattached the one that’s on now. The A320 family shares the same nose dimensions and cockpit so there wasn’t any hassle in doing so. Hardest part was just getting the subassembly to attach to the right point without being like .10 values off to the right of the x axis

    Did you increase the front width and height values from above 0? It needs to be like 0.15 or something.

    If the front fill is 0, you use overload to create a negative value.

    "I know yall miss me. Ive seen 2 forum posts about where ive been. And you know what, I am glad yall are concerned about me. In real life, when im sick, nobody asks me if im okay or not. Also, since I have 26 more days left, I should work on another Saab. But I am ok and well."

    Gotta love Iran Air still using vintage aircraft for as long as they did. IIRC they’ve still got A300s and an A310 in passenger service.
