Douglas TBD Devastator

History and Information

The TBD was ordered at the year of 1934, it's first flight was in 1935, and it finally went into service in 1937. During it's debut it was the most advanced aircraft and torpedo bomber in the USN and possibly for every navy in the world. But the fast pace of aviation development quickly rendered it obsolete and out classed by better aircraft.
During early battles of the Second World War the Devastator proved itself well. However during the battle of Midway it had earned notoriety for the terrible performance of 41 shot down, and no recorded hits, and with only six surviving aircraft after the battle. It was severely outclassed by the Mitsubishi A6m Zeroes.
The Zeroes quickly annahilated the planes but then the Devastators distracted the fighters from the SBD Dauntlesses that sank the four carriers(Hiryuu, Soryuu, Kaga and Akagi) and an additional cruiser. The TBD Devastator was replaced with the TBF Avenger after Midway.

Contriversial Mk 13 torpedo

The terrible performance was because of the Mark 13 torpedo, this torpedo had flaws which caused it to not detonate, and the torpedo required the plane delivering it to go low and slow, which is a prime target for both fighters and AA gunners. It caused the plane to go so slow that even a Type-96 25mm gun could even hit it, and the Type-96 triple and double mounts were infamously terrible because of the lack of their radar tracking and the terrible traverse and elevation speed.

Great work! I really love how this actually flies like a torpedo bomber and doesn't accelerate instantly. Looks pretty good too.

Pretty neat and I like how you made the torpedo only able to be deployed within a certain speed and altitude. One small mistake which causes a pretty big problem though is that you set the traction of the front wheels to 150%. This way, you can’t takeoff or land properly. Reduce this to 50% and it will take off perfectly
