Crusier submarine challenge

I like cruiser submarines and don’t see enough fictional cruisers submarines or cruiser submarines in general so why not get people make them by rewarding points

the goal of the challenge

Build a cruiser submarine like the Surcouf,HMS X1,or the Soviet K-class more detail below

what is cruiser sub

a cruiser submarine is a pretty broad definition I would define it, as a submarine with the combat capability’s of a cruiser but that’s my opinion. wikipedia defines it as “a very large submarine designed to remain at sea for extended periods in areas distant from base facilities. Their role was analogous to surface cruisers, cruising distant waters, commerce raiding, and scouting for the battle fleet”
.
The basic idea is a big submarine that can perform role that a cruiser can

how to enter

I would assume most people know how to enter a challenge but for any new player or people who just don’t know
Download this cockpit and start making a cruiser submarine When you are finished, upload it as a public post and make sure to tag me so that I won't miss it (if it doesn’t count as a successor tag a mod tell them what happened and they will sort it out)

deadline

The deadline is may 1st (Wednesday) 2024

RULES

  • Must be a successor of this post (once again if it did not upload as a successor, contact a mod tell them what happened they will sort it out )
    .
  • Must be a new build already posted builds are not allowed
    .
  • Must be uploaded and published within the deadline
The part count ceiling is 3000. If your build reaches above 3000 you will only get 3/4th points because my tablet will 1 lag Heavily so I won’t be able to test it properly or 2 just straight out crash my tablets good but not that good

prizes

  • 1st place: 25 upvotes (+5 spotlights if I can)

  • 2nd place: 15 upvotes (+3 spotlights if I can)

  • 3rd place: 10 upvotes (+1 spotlight if I can)

Honorable mentions: 5 upvotes

Every other entry: 1 upvote guaranteed

Notes:

if the winners don't have enough posts for the prizes to be properly handed out (e.g. if the 1st place winner only has 13 posts in total) then as many will be given as possible

I switched spotlights for extra upvotes as I doubt I will be able to spotlight anyone but if I can I will (I don’t understand why you need to have more points then someone to spotlight them but that’s the devs choice)

judgement criteria

Your designs will be judged based on the following points:

  • Authenticity: Whether or not your cruiser submarine are authentic to the the era or if your making a replica how close it looks to the real life ship

  • Functionality: obviously your submarine needs to dive underwater and have at least its main guns and torpedo tubes useable but if you can add secendary guns,Anti-aircraft guns,or anything you think you could add to a submarine

(Extra) +1 Story or creativity: If you build a fictional ship, a nice story history in the description or give it a cool feature would boost your post.

All of these parts of will be rated 0-10 and an extra overall point will be added if you have a good story or where creative with the design

helpful guide lines

  • hull design
Cruiser submarines are massive compared to the regular counterparts the Surcouf had a surface displacement of 3,250 tons while the most common regular French submarine the Redoutable Class only had a surface displacement of 1,500 tones so when designing your cruiser submarine make sure it’s bigger then a standard submarine

  • armament
A common feature with cruiser subs is having (1) a large amount of guns IE the German empires Projekt 50 having four guns or (2) very big guns IE Surcouf having 8 inch guns

  • super structure
There are actually a few choices for submarine super structure once again mentioning the Projekt 50 and Surcouf two examples of super structure designs ether having the main guns a part of the super structure or have them detached from it or mix them having the main guns attached but still with noticeable super structure

  • experiment with the design
Cruiser submarines date from 1916 to 1940 so don’t be afraid to deviate from the designs made in real life weather that be adding some sort of missile system like the proposed V-1 or V-2 u-boots or something else have fun with it

@Yish42 that’s a ground based radar balloon but yeah like that just down sized for a submarine because they where launched out of mine tubes (also I forget to mention if you use the instructions I gave if you need to use a gyroscope for stability)

    @Samfpanzer is it like this?

@Yish42 and for the radar balloon just attach a jet thrust to a winch and then add sphere part to cover to the jet and that’s a ballon make a small area for it to come out of add some radar things to the ballon then you have a radar balloon

@Yish42 I don’t have any pictures but WIZARD2017’s I-400 is a good example of a submarine that has a hanger and for the special equipment the sarcouf had range finder which no other submarine had

@Samfpanzer oh that's so cool! I've never heard of the Italian one before lol
    .
And I phrased it badly. The radars that are launched vertically from submarine mine deployment tubes. They float up to the surface with wires attached and allow a sub to surface, launch a plane or two from the hangar, and then submerge and go super deep, launch up the radar and sonars/radio receivers, and then communicate with the plane without being detected

@LieutenantSOT Radar Ballons? I’ve never heard of that, also France and the Japanese weren’t the only submarines with hangers the Italian Ettore Fieramosca had a hanger though it was removed in 1931

This is so cool! I hope this blows up, I actually don't think anyone has made a challenge on this before lol.
    .
Also, Cruiser subs were the only class of subs to carry planes on them. The Surcouf and the Japanese I-400 class had internal plane hangars and deployable radar balloons
