The J-5 fighter is the first generation of a single-seat, single-engine fighter copied by China's Shenyang State-owned 112th Factory (now known as the Shenyang aircraft Industry Corporation of China) in the 1950s. It is the first high-subsonic jet fighter made and equipped by the Air Force in China. The aircraft is developed with reference to the Soviet MIG-17 (MIG-17F) fighter and adopts a swept mid-wing aerodynamic configuration with nose intake. The aircraft has an all-metal structure, small size, light weight and good low-altitude maneuverability. the development of assembling the Chinese imitation "turbojet-5" engine J-5 began in October 1954, and the first J-5 with Chinese-made parts was used to complete the final assembly on July 13, 1956. On July 19, 1956, the J-5 prototype was successfully tested for the first time by test pilot Wu Keming. The J-5 was officially put into mass production in September 1956 and stopped production in May 1959, producing a total of 767 aircraft. On the basis of the J-5, the Chengdu aircraft Factory developed the J-5 A and J-5 aircraft, which successfully flew in November 1964 and 1966 respectively. The development equipment of the J-5 marked that China became a country in the world that could produce jet fighters in batches at that time.
