The Pride of the Pennsylvania railroad

history

The k4 line of locomotives were the main work horse of the Pennsylvania railroad throughout much of the early 20th century and was the go to passenger hauler throughout the era of steam, with a total of 425 being built between 1914-1928.

By the end of the 1940s steam was slowly being pushed out and from 1947-1960, the k4 was pushed from service. A total of 2 were saved, #3750 which is Curently staying at the Pennsylvania railroad museum in Strasburg Pennsylvania, i will say i have visited this museum, and its quite nice, and this example, #1361, is currently being restored so it can see active service again.

the story of #1361

Built in 1918 by the Altoona Works, and nicknamed "The Spirit of Altoona". The loco was removed from service in 1958 after which it was enshrined at the famous horseshoe curve in Altoona. In 1985 it was moved to the altoona works to be restored to operating condition, and was fired for the first time on April 12th, 1987.

By the end of the year the Pennsylvania legislature designated #3750 and #1361 Pennsylvania's state train. It ran for a year and a half before it suffered a catastrophic failure of the main bearing and drive axle and was moved out of excursion service to get fully restored. It went through one restoration attempt in 1996, but ever single peice needed to be remanufactured and inturn cost to much money. It went through a final restoration attempt in 2018 and is still being operated on today.

Ag1+VTOL- forward and reverse

NOTE be careful around points on scratchs railroad map, it was not designed for such large trains. Just be careful

Mega thanks to scratchoza for his help in making it workable for his railway mod and for getting me these amazing screenshots!

Builders note: This is my first train that I have made and honestly is one of my best builds to date. It looks so amazing and Cant be more happy with how she turned out. There are areas with less detail, like the tender and interior, but its a slideshow as it is on my phone so dont want to make it any worse.

This will be redesigned then to conform to the streamliner challenge but i wanted to make a version of an actual k4. The linkage was a headache to make as i had no blueprints for the linkage so i had to completely free build it which in turn, took a good 5 hours combined to fine tune and build. The build in total was about a month worth of work, and honestly, am glad to have it finished. Please enjoy driving my pride and joy.

keep looking to the stars

@Jaspy190 imma be honest with ya im not gonna take requests for trains. I doubt I'll be doing many of them so I'd rather do ones that I like or have a connection with if you understand where im coming from 😂

@PapaKernels oof, maybe try a Prussian State Railways T18? it's a kinda chunky tank engine, but smaller than a tender engine, so it may be easier to build.

@Jaspy190 no not really. Have one in the works but its been giving me a lot of problems so gotta figure out why its all of a sudden not wanting to work properly.

This is amazing! Any chance you'd make a British Pacific like an A1/A3, Britannia, Coronation, or West Country?

May I divert the engine and variables of this work to the steam locomotive I am building now?
