The Model 610 was designed in 1960 as a heavy fighter, high-altitude photo-reconnaissance aircraft, and ground attack aircraft. It had a crew of two, consisting of a pilot and REO/Weapons officer. It was incredibly fast and agile for a plane of its size, which would have made it a true menace of the skies. The Model 610 was armed with six 20mm cannons and had fourteen hardpoints for external payloads. It was entered into a contest with the Martin Canberra, and the Model 610 lost (most likely by some green being passed under the table, but this has never been confirmed). Two flying prototypes were created, with one suffering a fatal crash on March 10, 1969. While on a routine test flight, the engine failed and a fire started. The fire spread too quickly for the crew to react, and the plane fell like a meteor to the ground. After this incident, the remaining Model 610 was retired and now sits on display at the Aerostyle Military Archives facility in Illinois.
