Puis Staline a décidé parler personnellement avec AN Tupolev .

Hello, if you follow me, you know that I'm a fan of prototypes, especially Russian. This plane was discovered by chance during my research on the M50 bounder.
I spent a lot of time collecting information.
I present here a page of the premieres of the history of modern strategic bombers.

Despite the fact that the story of Ilyushin KB has published thousands of articles, monographs and monumental works, the books
from ND Talikov and YA Egorov do not even mention the strategic bombers of the flying wing IL-52. Curiously, why?
The creator of this project explains that the Ilyushin design office itself did not receive the work, and the project was developed in the rough, "on reserve", so to speak.
The story of the creation of long-range bombers began in the late 1940s. The end of the Second World War was marked by the emergence of
nuclear weapons which, for the first time in history, were used by the American Air Force in the war against Japan.
A new type of weapon that required different planes. Just after the war, the United States and England
Large-scale research and development projects have been deployed to create powerful strategic bombers.
In the United States, "Convair" and "Boeing" companies designed and built YB-60 and B-52 aircraft, which were intercontinental in scope.
Preference was given to B-52. He began to enter service in August 1954.
Earlier, on a competitive basis, Convair XB-46 Boeing XB-47 and Martin XB-48 medium strategic bombers were built.
In England, the tests were completed and launched a series of Avro medium strategic bombers "Volcano", Vickers "Velient" and the Handley Page "Victor".
This could not disturb the Russian military command, as such work has already begun in the Soviet Union.
First, he used the Tu-4, which was the US copy of B-29, as the carrier. But it was only a temporary measure.
Despite the momentary speed with which it was put in place, the Tu-4 was only a transient bomber because its flight characteristics
such as speed, range, and payload did not respond to the Russian military administration.
In the criteria of development and improvement of jet fighter jets, piston engine bombers could not defeat
strong enemy air defenses. This was confirmed during the Korean War in 1950-53. The B29 and B-50 in aerial combat against MiG-15
have suffered significant losses. the night fighting mode all made sense.
Creating a responsive bomber to fly and reach his goal of day or night was at the time a very complex technological puzzle.
the transition of piston aircraft with a take-off weight of approximately 40-50 t and flight speeds of 500-600 km / h towards
jet technology to masses of 150-200 t and transonic speeds required a lot of aerodynamic research, scientific
strength and aero-elasticity, creating completely new designs, materials and equipment.

The problem was complicated by the creation of large turbojet engine. the first turbojet has just appeared, it develops a small power and, huge demand
quantities of fuel, moreover it is unreliable.

One day, during a conversation with the Minister of the Aeronautical Industry, Stalin asked if an intercontinental bomber based on the Tu-16, adding two
engines and increasing its size and weight will be possible? To this question, the Minister of the Aeronautical Industry is negative.
Then Stalin decided to speak personally with AN Tupolev. AN Tupolev said that with the engines currently available, this will not work.
So Stalin says that another designer will make such a machine. This designer was Myasischev.

You have here a unique machine from the history of aviation, a magnificent flying wing .... that never flew.
Even at this point, after 60 years, she remains breathtakingly elegant with the very modern lines.
