Name: Boeing 747-AAC (airborne aircraft carrier)
Type: Concept Replica
Attempt #: 5
Falkenwut Generation Build: 4

A Boeing 747 with 2 model 985-20 Arrows inside. Inspired by Mustard's video on youtube, following the Original declassified documentation

Instructions:
Flaps - 747 Flaps
Trim - 747 elevator trims
Action groups:
1 - Toggle bay doors and stability gyros
2 - Enable control of front Model 985-20
3 - Toggle control of front Launch and Recovery Arm

5 - Enable control of rear Model 985-20

Deployment procedure:
1 - Climb to a suitable height and high height and fly at a stable straight flight.
2 - Press 1 and 8 to set the 747 on "autopilot" as the bay doors open. You can use the trim to adjust that 747's flight path during this time onwards
3 - Press 3 or 6 to lower the Model 985-20 of your choosing with the Launch and Recovery Arm
4 - Press 2 or 5 to take control full control of the chosen Model 985-20

(first to disconnect with decoupler, and second to disable the magnets)
6 - Press 3 or 4 to raise the Launch and Recovery Arm

Due to the game's limitation:
- The Model 985-20 have been given machine guns only due to the limited number of action group available.
- If you prefer to add missles or bombs, you may do so, but to deploy them, you may need to set a Model 985-20's canopy as primary, and your fuel will fall short in a short amount of time.
- Once in flight with the Model 985-20, the primary display will belong to the 747, therefore all combat must be done visually

Recovery Procedure:
1 - Ensure that the 747 bay doors and already open (AG1) and the control surfaces and engines are not in use (AG8)
2 - Press 3 or 6 to lower the Launch and Recovery Arm
3 - Press 4 or 7 to activate the magnets
4 - Fly the Model 985-20 right under the yellow Recovery arm and it should connect automatically to the magnets of the arm
5 - Press B to cut off the power of the Model 985-20 and press 2 or 5 to cut off complete control of the Model 985-20
6 - Press 3 or 6 to raise the Launch and Recovery arm with the recovered model 985-20.
7 - Press 1 and 8 to close the bay doors and recover control of the 747

Despite me adding lights to help with approach, this is a very VERY challenging balancing act to make it work, and I have only managed it once... Usually the result is as below:

So I urge you guys enjoy the plane and be patient... Or better yet, here's a challenge for you:

10 Upvotes for the first person to record a video of themselves, taking off, releasing a Model 985-20, win a dogfight and successfully recover the Microfighter and land in a base, safe and sound. 20 Upvotes if you do it with both!!!

@Falkenwut I understand. Either way, you did a really good job replicating the original concept. Great skills!

@ares01 i wish to say yes, but this would be a huge project. It is not in the foreseeable future I'm afraid. I did a vr-version of the microfighter not too long ago.. that that's a start..

also @Falkenwut, may i ask if you have plans to remake/update this build of yours?

after almost an hour of messing around, I found out that putting an 'L' shaped fuselage on the front of the recovery arm makes it like 100% easier to dock the micro fighter. It basically acts like a claw that prevents the micro fighter from going any futher, you just need to line up with the lights and keep going until it touches the claw, then you press 4/7.

I completely forgot about this challenge, but now, I'm ready to take it up for real.

@AerospaceGeek I can only suggest you re-download it and follow the instructions provided as much as possible.

For me it spirals out of control, literally zero chance of recovery. I can actually reach such a high rate of RPM the camera auto switches... huh.

@stevemc01 Checked on the issue, but all seems fine. - The microfighters become active once you activate the buttons 2 or 5 respectively, and will not shoot if these active groups are off.

I would suggest re-downloading it should it give you further trouble.

@stevemc01 you can remove the ai traffic to help you avoid this issue.

I have managed to dock it only 3 times. It is incredibly challenging as you have said. I did however make a challenge for people to try recording themselves as per the description of the plane. So far no takers...

Lol. Think you can post a video on how to reconnect with the carrier? I end up losing it before I can dock mostly because of some ramming AI plane...@Falkenwut

A small issue I found though... when I detach the micro fighters, the guns deactivate. So I couldn’t shoot anything...

I feel you in terms of how hard this was to make... I made a New York-class refit that could operate a recon plane and retrieve it via a system of two cranes, winches, and magnets. I salute you with this design.

This thing is sick, I love how you have not only made a launchable plane, but also recoverable. Overall an awesome design!

@Falkenwut Did you design those little planes? I have a similar project (same concept, just ugly and primitive) and I need tiny planes.
