HYAM MK.2

Funky Trees Thrust Vectoring Air-To-Air Missile

Domestically developed by Ku Aerospace, the first pure Thrust Vectoring and Funky-Trees controlled Air-To-Air Missile on Simpleplanes! First of its kind with newfound technology, the missile boasts incredible performance at all speeds, all distances, all angles, and all altitudes, all made possible with only Funky-Trees! It is capable of very high aspect launches, re-engaging targets if it misses, and extreme maneuverability, able to execute high angle-of-attack turns! No part of this missile is guided by gyros or in-game default missiles!!!.

Player usage

  1. This missile has simulated all aspect ranges, thus you need to fly within about 2 km in front of your target, or around 10 km behind your target:

  2. Press the fire weapons button (Alt key on PC) and watch the missile go

  3. You must keep the target selected for the duration of the missile's flight for it to guide in correctly!

  4. You may switch your selected target mid-flight and the missile will try its best to adjust course to hit its new target.

Stats

Guidance Type: Infra-Red (IR)
Aspect: All Aspect
Gimble Limit: 100 degrees
Rear Aspect Lock Range: 15 km
Front Aspect Lock Range: 3 km
Side Aspect Lock Range: 5 km
Track Rate: 70 degrees/second
G-Overload: 60 Gs
Max Speed: >Mach 4 *
Max Flight Range: ~27 km *
Motor Burn Time: 0.5 seconds booster, 20 seconds sustainer
Guidance Time: 20 seconds, will self-destruct when fuel runs out!
Weight: 239 lbs

*This number is the maximum value achieved during testing. Due to the fact that this missile is controlled by thrust vectoring, real figures, especially in close quarter dogfights, may be much lower.

Features and abilities

  • Not guided by default in-game missile or gyro
  • Improved fuse and reliable warhead detonation
  • Very large gimble limit
  • Extreme maneuverability, capable of high angle-of-attack maneuvers
  • Retains and improves performance at high altitudes due to it only relying on thrust vectoring for maneuvers
  • Able to re-engage the target if it misses the first time
  • Smooth flight performance due to no moving aerodynamic surfaces
  • No longer has issues when guiding directly upwards or downwards
  • Low smoke motor

Limitatons and problems

  • Since the missile relies only on thrust vectoring, and there are no moving aerodynamic surfaces, the missile will not be able to maneuver after the engine burns out; thus it will self-destruct at that time.
  • The missile may be less accurate when it is at high angles-of-attack/slip. However, the missile is fully capable of quickly re-engaging the target (turning around and hitting the target again)
  • The missile's performance may depend on the performance of your device, where a lower FPS may significantly effect the missile's performance.
  • From time to time the smoke generator, a tiny hellfire missile where it's sole purpose is to generate smoke and nothing else, may fall out during violent maneuvers. This will not affect the performance of the missile what so ever!

Notes

This project served as research on how to control missiles using thrust vectoring. It was very frustrating at the moment while I was working on the code, however now that it is done, it is a lot simpler than I thought; overall it has a shorter code than any of my previous missile projects! It is satisfying and mesmerizing watching the missile pull 30-60 degrees of AOA/AOS in an instant and hit it's target from ridiculous angles, and it will only get better from here. I will be using this in other plane builds to be released in the future. Expect the coming missile projects to include SRAAMS, R73s, and etc...

@Ku thank you so much also this might be a challenge but can u make a really realistic air to air missle

@Federico050312 First you have to to into Air-to-Air mode and select a target

Then, so you know how the button which you fire missiles and drop bombs with is greyed out because you technically didn't lock on to anything? Just press it anyways when you get near a target and the missile will launch

@Federico050312 don't worry about trying to shoot it like the default missile, just press left Alt or hold the fireweapons button on mobile (even if it's not lit up)

@Fighter119Su35 Are you on mobile? If you are you need to open your weapons selection, tap on the name of the missile to select it (even though it will say unavailable) and then press Fire Weapons while you are within range of the target.
