In 1995, the Arpía was created under the XM95 project, which consisted of adapting a weapons system to the UH-60L helicopter, acquired by the Colombian government the previous year. The engine power was subsequently increased, giving rise to the Arpía II. The ingenuity of the Force's members would later create a new generation: the Arpía III, with improved precision and effectiveness, a computerized weapons delivery system, long-range infrared cameras, a FLIR system, and a sophisticated pilot helmet. In January 2014, the modernization of the first Arpía IV began, with significant modifications to the weapons systems to increase precision during operations against narco-terrorist groups and strengthen the Colombian Air Force's deterrent capabilities, giving it greater strategic relevance in the face of threats.
