Hydrogen Fusion Turbine testbed

147k Pilotmario  8.2 years ago
Auto Credit Based on Pilotmario's Maverick Fighter

VTOL to open air brakes. A turbine which runs on hydrogen fusion has been developed by the Univeristy of Rodmantown physicists and engineers, but finding a suitable aircraft to test on was troublesome. They were able to source a Pilotmario Air Force Maverick Mk II, which had suffered an accident and although repaired to airworthy status, was in queue for an armament upgrade, and was loaned to the university. With a proper aircraft to use it with, they were able to significantly increase the aircraft's endurance and range. The air intakes were not sealed off, since they would be needed to assist cooling the reactor. It was deemed a success, and further development will be made to lower the cost of the reactor. It has been painted white, as the aircraft was delivered unpainted and white and black were the only colors available.

@Flightsonic Water was considered, but it was found more efficient to use liquid hydrogen instead due to the greater volatility, increasing power. Volatility was not a factor, since the university and the Pilotmario Air Force has procedures handling liquid hydrogen safely.

They are developing a water-powered turbine for the Army though. The difficulty is providing a filter which will provide a reasonable volume of water in a short amount of time.

Couldn't this (supposedly) run off of water?
Edit: I studied a bit, I know recent IRL tests with this have used ice, but those are mammoth reactors that used lasers to fuse the hydrogen (I'm not making this up)
