Today, I present to you the gurgel br-800, a car created by "Gurgel Motores S/A", which was a 100% brazilian car brand founded in 1969 by João Augusto Amaral Gurgel, a man ahead of his time.

Gurgel Motores sold 40,000 cars during the nearly 25 years that it operated. During this period, the company even exported cars to several countries, such as Jamaica and Panama. The cars always had very Brazilian names(like Carajás,Tocantins,Xavante) since Amaral Gurgel was a patriot and valued the national industry.

But, unfortunately, the Brazilian government did not have an industrial policy for fully national cars and no country was able to create its own car brands without an industrial policy. It could be argued that Gurgel made cars too small and too cheap for any non-closed-market.

without government support, Gurgel filed for bankruptcy in June 1993. In a last-ditch attempt to save the factory, in 1994, a request was made to the federal government for $20 million in financing for the company, but this was denied, and the factory was declared bankrupt in 1994.

Amaral gurgel died in 2009 due to Alzheimer's disease, but he will always be remembered as the man who had the willpower and discipline to try to create a 100% Brazilian car brand.
