Background

The Aubrey Burns class of guided missile destroyers is core vessel of the Federation Royal Naval forces. Built around the Aegis Combat System, the class is named after Admiral Aubrey Burns, one of the longest serving Admirals in the Federation.

Designed as multi-mission destroyers with the ability to fulfill land strike roles with Excalibur missiles, anti-aircraft warfare role with the Aegis system, AN/SPY-7B and surface-to-air missiles, anti-submarine warfare with towed sonar arrays, ASW rockets, and helicopters, and anti-surface warfare. As part of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System, the Aubrey Burns-class of destroyers have demonstrated that they perform as an effective mobile antiballistic missile and anti-satellite weaponry platform.

The first ship of the class was built on April 1995. The Aubrey Burns-class ships became the most widely used destroyer in the Royal Federation Navy. 52 Have been completed since 1995.
