Do-635 Zwilling

A mere concept developed in 1944 during the Second World War, the Dornier-635 Zwilling was a hypothetical aircraft that was meant to serve as a long-range reconnaissance platform for the Luftwaffe. It centered around the joining of two Do-335 heavy fighters via a central structural wing, in a similar fashion to the American development of the F-82 "Twin Mustang" from two P-51 airframes.

Now, while I have nothing against long-range reconnaissance aircraft, I don't think they're particularly exciting. So, I added some classic German 30mm cannons to make it into a heavy-fighter/interceptor successor to the original Do-335, which is more...fun. ;)

Speaking of which, the Do-335 was the fastest propeller plane in the Luftwaffe, due largely to its streamlined design and "push-pull" engine configuration. This rendition of the Do-635 enhances that characteristic, reaching a top speed of over 500 mph under 10,000 feet, and having decent all-around maneuverability, (with a slightly slower roll rate than most traditional fighters...but who needs to dogfight when you can boom and zoom faster than anyone else?) :)

This aircraft also comes equipped with five 30mm cannons, to be used for either air or ground targets, as well as two 20mm cannons in each nose of the airframe.

Some things to note about this aircraft:
1) The 30mm cannons are linked to the traditional cannon function, and the "20mm" cannons are linked to the machine gun function.

2) When landing, take it easy (just tap) the brake and the rudder periodically to correct for veering while braking. I minimized this problem to the best of my ability, but it will still veer right or left if you just stomp on the brake. This was the first time I've ever built or used custom landing gear for an aircraft, so take it with a grain of salt. :)

3) I put a lot of time (probably 150+ hours over two-and-a-half months) into creating this aircraft, and I would appreciate feedback and support so I can better my builds in the future!

4) I hope you enjoy the Do-635 Zwilling, don't forget to have fun with it!

:)
