That lunatic YuYsukablyat forgot his meds again... goddammit, let me out of here, I don’t want to be anywhere near him...
Hello! So, basically, the voices in my head whispered that it might be a good idea to launch some kind of challenge or contest — something along the lines of building a lightweight, high-speed attack aircraft.
Now, for the requirements:
Class/type and role: A relatively cheap, simple, and lightweight single-engine high-speed frontline bomber, designed to destroy enemy fortifications and other structures directly along the frontline and in the close rear, using unguided medium-caliber bombs (roughly 100–500 kg, or 250–1000 lb — I’ll provide those). Time period: approximately 1975–1995.
Key specs: As mentioned, single engine, ability to fly at transonic or supersonic speeds at low altitude, a small internal bomb bay capable of holding at least one 500-kg (1000-lb) bomb OR two 250-kg (500-lb) bombs, empty weight without fuel and weapons no more than 5500 kg (~12125 Ib), fuel capacity of at least 2000 kg (~4400 lb, or ~2450 liters), and a hard limit of no more than 300–320 parts, because even at that number my Japanese kettle — the Xperia 5 III — heats up like a nuclear reactor. Ideally, try to aim for realism, and functional cockpits are welcome. And to make it easier for me, it would be preferable for your planes to be "successors" of this post, or you can leave links in the comments.
Deadline: Submissions will be accepted until August 25 — nothing can be added after that. I’ll post the results a few days after the deadline.
Main references, mostly in terms of appearance: F-20 Tigershark, MiG-27, and to some extent heavier jets like the F-111 or Su-24 — though your aircraft should be smaller and lighter than those.
There won’t really be a formal scoring system, probably. Yeah, I know that sounds odd — but the idea here is just to give people a prompt to build something cool. That said, I’ll definitely highlight the entries I personally like the most and share my thoughts on each submission.
Alright, a quick note: apologies in advance if any of this sounds totally messed up — this is my first time doing anything like this, so I might’ve made mistakes in how I put the challenge together. Sorry.
If anything’s unclear, feel free to ask in the comments — I’ll try to explain.
And... well, to be honest, I don’t want this to blow up too big. I'd be happy with 5 or 6 people, really, but may be more, i don't mind about this. Just a small, cozy gathering — that’s the vibe I’m going for. No need to overdo it or aim to be the best. Just build something you like, as long as it fits the requirements.
I might also build a plane of my own to these specs, but just for fun — it won’t be part of the challenge. Or maybe I won’t. We’ll see.
(Oh, and all that crazy stuff at the beginning about voices in my head — that was a joke, A JOKE! I’m fine, I swear. Just in case.)

@Ktoto14 Oh, you're alive! I remember, but thanks for reminding me.
@BOSSentinel ok
@SleepyKitty you find out when we all find out, in the end, like a normal person.
@BOSSentinel I just wanted to know.
@SleepyKitty that’s a little bit of a stretch. I don’t think Asking “Btw, is my plane in first place” would make someone put a plane, which broke basically every rule, in first.
(Let me remind you that this is my main plane) https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/luTjs4/Light-Strike-Aircraft-Challenge-my-option-updated
@MetallicBeef6572 yes
@Sockdragger 👍
@YuYsukablyat Can the bomb bays be mounted under the wings? Like detachable weapons pods
@YuYsukablyat that's between about 500 and 650 mph. Good to know. My idea was to make a potent 2-seat trainer and transform it into a 1-seat light ground attack craft with the space for the second seat used for a cannon and bomb bay
@Sockdragger Well, transonic is generally in the region of one Mach, but I think we can take less, in the region of 800-1000 km/h (well, how much is that in miles per hour?)
So what is the top speed you need to go transonic?
@YuYsukablyat oh bet!
@SleepyKitty Well… I don’t think there will be actual places. Honestly, it’s hard for me to give any specific rankings, I’ve mentioned before I don’t like doing that. But we could say there are, so to speak, “nominations,” and your plane is currently winning in one of them — the “screw you and your rules” category) (Not an accusation)
@YuYsukablyat ok thanks!
(Btw so far is mine in 1st place?)
@SleepyKitty yes
@YuYsukablyat "+"= Yes?
@SleepyKitty +
@YuYsukablyat So it counts?
@SleepyKitty Cool👍 but seriously, let it be, the plane is not bad
@YuYsukablyat lol I broke like every rule 😅
@Mitterbin Great
@SleepyKitty >_< okay… Let it be. As for your question, I will quote the post: "There won’t really be a formal scoring system, probably. Yeah, I know that sounds odd — but the idea here is just to give people a prompt to build something cool. That said, I’ll definitely highlight the entries I personally like the most and share my thoughts on each submission."
Well, about the awards... Idk, well, let's say 10-15 upvotes. We'll see when it happens.
i join
@YuYsukablyat
My plane has no weapons bay and 2 engines. Is that fine?
