A-8 Bullshark

16.3k greasytortle  6.1 years ago

The A-8 Bullshark was a collaboration aircraft developed by Northrop and British Aerospace when Nato Aircraft Carriers needed a strike aircraft to combat enemy units in the battles of Snowstone Island. The aircraft took inspiration from the SU-25 Frogfoot and was designed for naval operations. The Bullshark has folding wings and a heavy duty tailhook for carrier decks and the airframe was made buoyant in the event that pilots had to land at sea. The armaments include nine weapon pylons, four countermeasures (2 Flares, 2 Chaff) and twin 30mm autocannons in the nose. The powerplant is a hybrid turbofan jet engine that allows the aircraft to travel Mach 1.28 at 25,000ft without afterburners and Mach 2.1 at 30,000ft with afterburners.
