This beast was the chosen mount of german ace Werner voss who died attacking 7 british se5A aces including James McCudden a leading british ace, he forced 3 from the fight and damaged all of them overall he lasted over 10 minuets at some point a lone red nosed albatross D.V made an attempt to help Voss but a british pilot shot his engine and he crash landed,in a head on pass a british plane fired a burst into his side Voss continued his corse probably wounded or dead he then went into a shallow dive and the british pilots put two more bursts in untill the fokker was near to the ground, one british pilot thought he saw the fokker going into what looked like a landing glide but stalled and the crash only left the rudder intact.....
Later McCudden said "His flying was wonderful, his courage magnificent and in my opinion he was the bravest German airman whom it has been my privilege to see fight."
