M.Corp Spotter

242k EternalDarkness  4.8 years ago

Spotter is a mobile anti-aircraft C3ISTAR (Command, Control, Computing, Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, Reconnaissance) system. Like Saab Giraffe, it is recognizable by a tall folding mast supporting the radar. It is used by M.Corp Air Defense for filling gaps left by larger systems and for controlling and guiding point defense gun, missile, and combined anti-aircraft weapons.

Design:

M.Corp Spotter is based on M.Corp Freighter 6x6 truck, and consists of a generator, command room, extendable struts, folding mast with hydraulics, and AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) head. System housing can be detached from the truck and work as fixed radar emplacement.

Crew of Spotter consists of the driver and two to four system operators, depending on the mission. Command room is in the rear of the system housing and is accessed via stairs on the right side of the system that fold flush with the body of the system housing when the system is in transit mode.

Forward of the command room is processing equipment of the system, generator, hydraulic pumps, and other necessary components.

Radar itself is mounted on an 8m tall mast. It rotates at 30rpm, and has a range of 100km and maximum altitude of around 30,000m. It is an active electronically scanned array (AESA). It contains features that reduce the probability of intercept by anti-radiation missiles, radar warning receivers, and other hostile systems. It is also highly resistant to jamming.

Features:

  • Old, reliable M.Corp Freighter chassis;
  • A lot of moving parts;
  • Friction brake stopping radar rotation when radar is not in use;
  • Good driving performance;
  • Details;

Controls:

  • Pitch and Roll = Drive;
  • Ag8 = Lights;
  • LandingGear = Lower struts and stairs;
  • Ag1 = Erect the radar;
  • Ag2 = Spin/stop the radar.

Notes:

  • Radar spins at maximum rpm allowed by SimplePlanes, as it is powered by VTOL engine. I couldn't find a way to slow it down.

Enjoy

    @EternalDarkness
    Ok, we'll just purchase 25.

    @TheFantasticTyphoon yup. I don't see why you'd need that many though. Each covers quite a bit of territory, and it's meant to fill gaps left by more powerful radar systems.

    Could I purchase 50 of these for my RP faction?

    @EternalDarkness Go to google and look up Sikorsky Skycrane. It could use an electric magnet if you so felt.

    @SpencerTreePuncher what would that be? Heavy lift helicopter?

    This is a great system. The truck was a challenge to break. I’d like to make a request. Could you create a M.Corp Skycrane?

    @8bitgamer33 just stop it anywhere, spin it again, and then stop it in its original position. It shouldn't gain much speed for one revolution.

    It's hard to spin the radar back to its original position after starting it.

    @BogdanX I'm glad you like it. It takes around 100m to stop from 120km/h, which is roughly realistic.

    @ThomasRoderick I've used that trick before. However, it only works up to a certain speed, which is too slow, and suddenly it tries to spin at full speed.

    Etty, I assume that to make something turn, you can use a gyro with 0 speed and 0 stability, and a yawPower of your desire. This can help making both tanks (for turning) and rotating radar antennae. That's how I made the radar on my "Sweeper" AA guns.
