RJ Vulcan B4 7.1

Introduction

So the Vulcan had a B1 (no cranked leading edge etc.) B2 (cranked leading edge) a B3 was proposed as a Skybolt weapons platform so i decided to make a B4. I shrunk the vulcan wing width to 75% and then scaled it back to match an actual Vulcans wingspan, this created a longer wing with a larger surface area, combining that with a TSR2 inspired longer fuselage allowed me to create the massive bomb bay that can fit 2 Skybolts internally (once i altered the Skybolt fin size anyway).

Most aircraft had evolved from high level bombing to down low due to SAM improvements, the Vulcan was no different, so with this design i have based the manoverability on high speed low altitude so at low speed it does feel sluggish but at high speed its great fun.

I also re-jigged (technical term, honest) the engine arrangement to include both the TSR2 style up and under and the original vulcan side by side arrangements, i worked on the philosophy that it wouldnt be too unexpected to remove the twin engines from the wing and install single larger engines sized to match the main fuselage, i would imagine that these would be RR Olympus type engines with reheat of course.

So with the increase in size, the larger weapons load and the overall rejigging the aircraft needed to weigh more than the Vulcan B2, the poor undercarriage struggled with the SP physics but i got it to work (under hard breaking it does sometimes judder but in real life the breaks are not on and off as they are here), use of the breaking chutes assists here.

I imagined that the crew number swould stay similar to the B2 but have a bit more room (have you ever been in a Vulcan cockpit? Its cosy i will tell you, its a squeeze just to get between the two pilot seats), with bang seats for all crew, so 2 pilots side by side with 3-4 people in the rear positions.

Weaponry - So the Skybolt was an American missile that was seen as the way forward in delivering nuclear warheads to targets (until they abandoned it in favour of balistic missiles). Here i have fitted 2 slightly altered weapons with conventional warheads (nukes would be fun), as the missiles are massive they are not very manoeveably, make sure you are pointed at your target when you fire in order to hit them, they can be released from quite a range as well which also helps.

Fuel - not my usual subject, but with 4 massive engines with reheat it can be thirsty, i have made this so it will run out of fuel quick if you just blat about at 100% throttle and full reheat, try 70-80% throttle and it flies quite a distance =)

Controls

AG1 = reheat
1

AG2 = bomb bay doors and activate Skybolts
2

AG3 = fold wings for storage (I nearly deactivated this, but i think it would be useful for hangering such a massive aircraft)
3

AG4 = airbrakes
3

AG5 = breaking parachutes
4

AG6 = navigation lights

Thanks to Edensk for his help on this one, the engine and pitch funkytrees are all due to him along with the reheat command so it will only light on 100% throttle. Also thanks for his assistance with the flight model and feedback in general.

    @LoafOfBread originally i did the wing for a fighter which indeed needed the tip to lower down for clearance in the carrier, it helps on this one for hanger door clearance etc. i would imagine anyway

    This is INSANE camo is awesome! Also wahts the reason for the tip wing to point down while entire wing folds up? Maybe to make it lower and fit in smaller space on carrier?
