Designed as a multirole swingwing as a slightly earlier and smaller version of the F-111 the Blackfish enjoyed sucess as a multirole fighter, supplementing the A-10 and F-15 as an inbetween balance, the first flight occured on the 17th of May 1977 this flight ended before the end of the runway due to a turbine blade fracture which blew the port engine and set the aircraft on fire, the test pilot safley ejected. The load out for most of operation Echo was 3 500lb dumb bombs, 4 Hornet AtG missiles, 8 Trident Unguided rockets, 4 Stinger Ultra Short Range AtA missiles and the usual 22mm gun and light canon.
