My first actually good plane, the F-505 Interceptor


History

The F-505 started as a project for a long range interceptor to defend Iberias borders. A similar aircraft based off the F-505 entered service with Algeria as the I-505. The first aircraft prototype took flight in 1970 and entered service in 1972. A series of upgrades allowed it to serve a long career in multiple roles, excelling over comparable designs


Design

The F-505 is a twin engine long range high altitude interceptor, capable of reaching speeds in excess of Mach 3, and carrying a assortment of long range air to air weaponry. It is a two seat aircraft arranged in a tandem configuration, a Pilot in the front, and a WSO in the rear. It’s main armament is the AIM-61 Ballista long range air to air missile, capable of carrying up to 4 of them on body and wing hard points.
