Matra R.511

34.8k WarHawk95  4.3 years ago

The "Engin Spécial" (same thing as Missile but in the 50s-60s) Matra R.511 is the first french-built Air-to-Air missile.

It works with Semi Active Radar Homing (SARH).

This missile was designed in the late 50s and 900 units were ordered to equip the SNCASO "Vautour" IIN, in service in the Armée de l'Air at the time.

Characteristics :
- Weight : 172 kg
- Length : 3.10 m
- Width (body) : 263 mm
- Wingspan : 1 m
- Max speed : Mach 1.8
- Cruise altitude : 18,000 m

This SP version is based on the following :

(I tried to reproduce this pic on the 3rd screenshot)

Warning :

If you're not masochist, don't use this missile.
You better use the "mobile-friendly" version just next to it.
The one on the screenshots has about 50 parts, whereas this one just below has about 40 parts "only".

Yeah, I'm kind enough to put the "detailed" one and the "mobile-friendly" one in the same pack.

Pros :
- Excellent manoeuvrability
- You can use it at all time
- Quite mobile-friendly
- French quality 😁
- CUSTOM CONTROL SURFACES
(This is just clickbait for ED, don't worry)

Cons :
- U have to maintain lock.

Based on a XML modded "Guardian"

@sheepsblood Annnd... Isn't it sexy with this yellow ?
I mean, yellow is a beautiful color for a missile !!!

@sheepsblood you know, this missile was in service in the 60s. Now it's a piece of museum, not combat-ready anymore. I don't see any inconveniences to put it on a pallet.. This one is owned by a french aviation museum.

It's funny to see a piece of ordnance just sitting on a pallet.

(IDK but I am like 99.99% positive it is universal to be painted with BLUE stripes if it is practice ordnance)

@Mustang51 well maybe Wikipedia is right but I only heard about it being used on the Vautour.
Therefore the Mirage III actually used the R.530 SARH missile, so... Wait a bit and I'll make it for you !

@WarHawk95 when I read online about this missile it said the Mirage IIIC used it as well. However that was Wikipedia so I’ll trust you more on that hahaha

@Mustang51 It wouldn't be okay for a simple reason ; these missiles were only used on the Vautour IIN. 😁😁
But if you want, OK !! I would just be unrealistic.
But I'm trying to make a Matra R530, missile equipped on the Mirage III. When it's done you can use it.

@WarHawk95 I would accept this as an entry though I would need to refrain to the rules in which deductions will be applied due to failure to comply and that is simply the post not being a successor. It is not much though just 5%. I would say this looks nice but all comments will be said by the end of the competition.

@WarHawk95 I did! I thought that was so cool to see! If I make a Dassault mirage III would it be okay if I used it (giving you credit for the missiles of course)

I know I would have to post it as a successor for the challenge
But If you consider it's good enough to enter the challenge, why not ?
Anyway I just need your opinion on this, bc you're the weapons master here
