MCS Loyal

242k EternalDarkness  4.8 years ago

MCS Loyal is the third out of thirteen ships of the Virtue class of frigates. It is a bluewater-capable multirole frigate with modular, mission-adaptable armament and equipment layout.

Design:

MCS Loyal is powered by COGAG (combined gas and gas) system with two 8500hp turbines for cruise and two 22000hp turbines for sprint. Power is transferred to two shafts with five-bladed variable pitch propellers that allow the speed of up to 62km/h. Steering comes from three rudders, giving the ship very good maneuverability.
The structure of MCS Loyal is built out of composite materials, duralumin, and steel. It is designed to with sloped sides and with as few protrusions as possible in order to reduce the radar cross-section. It also features low-noise propellers and turbines mounted on shock absorbers to minimize the acoustic signature.

Stern of the ship contains a landing pad and a hangar that can house one naval helicopter. There are also three observation drones stored disassembled in the hangar. Two RHIBs are placed aft of the bridge, either side of the exhaust tower.

Armament:

105mm gun is the main artillery weapon of the Virtue class ship. It is mounted on the foredeck, within a stealthy turret. It is fed from the magazine two decks below, from eight-round drums, and carries thirty such drums. An entire content of one drum can be stored on the loader shaft/elevator, allowing the gun to have up to sixteen ready-to-fire rounds.
Gun on the build has eight ready-to-fire rounds

M.Corp Gemini CIWS is a close range gun system consisting a stealthy turret containing two 30mm gatlings, their servos, targeting radar, and electro-optical devices, and ammunition container below the deck holding 1200 rounds per gun. Two such systems are installed on Virtue class ships, providing 360° protection against airborne and surface targets. Its primary role is missile defence.
CIWS is simplified to reduce part count

Eight-Pack VLS is a removable container containing eight vertical launch tubes, supporting a variety of air to air and light land attack missiles. All tubes are covered when not in use, and are opened automatically. There are four Eight-Pack VLS containers at the bow of the Virtue-class ship, which can be replaced by other mission-oriented systems.

Cleaver cruise missile is a medium-to-long range ship-launched cruise missile. They are deployed from vertical launch tubes. On Virtue class ships, those tubes are in the aft superstructure, either side of the hangar.

2x2 torpedo tubes that rotate outward from behind the cruise missile VLSs.
only torpedo bay outline included,
as launchers would be useless and
would increase the part count

Notes:

  • I've tried to keep the part count as low as possible while still ending up with a good ship. I've used every trick I could think of to remove excess parts while getting the details I wanted.
  • This build is inspired by Admiral Grigorovich-class and Admiral Gorshkov-class frigates of the Russian navy.
  • Helicopter sold separately.

Controls:

  • Throttle + VTOL to sail;
  • Ag8 + Pitch + Roll to operate the main gun and front CIWS. Cockpit view;
  • Ag1 to open missile tubes and arm missiles;
  • Ag2 to activate rear CIWS. Pitch + Roll to operate. Camera1;

Enjoy

    @Firdu12 this build is very old, and I probably won't be upgrading it. Sorry.

    @JH22444 I have built the ship, and then optimised it, spending hours looking what two parts can be replaced with one and what subsystem can be made more efficiently.

    @EternalDarkness And... HOW ON EARTH DID YOU PUT IN SO MUCH DETAIL AN LITERALLY HAVE 670 PARTS!?!? You are a god. There is no other way of putting it.

    @JH22444 mediocre phones can usually run up to some 800 parts. It's not potato friendly.

    Just to be fair, I think this should have been demonstrated instead of my Mig-8. You've done a lot of work with an original theme.

    Real pretty and it’s not even that high in parts.. Ship vs ship??? Lol

    Edit: I tried blowing it up with the barque so could make a GIF of it and tag you but... I realised all the cannonballs were collision free. XD
