Manufacturer
Saab (Sweden) in collaboration with Malaya auxiliary air force
Year of introduction
1959
LORE
It was the year 1955. The Saab J35 Draken was just introduced into the Swedish air force, and became incredibly popular due to it's excellent speed and agility.
Consequently, this attracted the attention of many nations looking to expand their air force, particularly Singapore(which was part of Malaya then).
Being a small island nation, it's air defence doctrine centred on quick interception outside it's borders, which the draken was excellent in.
This partnership then lead to the development of the J36 XSG Typhon, a significantly modified draken most suited for the interceptor role.
Compared to the draken, the Typhon had a larger aircraft body to accommodate the twin engines as well as the additional fuel required to keep the aircraft airborne for longer. It also features a clipped delta versus a full delta to decrease energy loss while turning.
Specifications
Top speed at sea level: 1450kmh TAS
Top speed at 34000 feet: 2000kmh TAS
Armament: 2x wing mounted 30mm ADEN cannons, 4x Aim 9B sidewinders
Engine: 2x RM 6C engines with 70kN thrust at full afterburner
Features
Similar to the draken, the Typhon had a primitive AoA limiter, which when turned off could enable it to perform the kort parad cobra manoeuvre.
Configuration Options
4x hard points allow for fitting of air-to-air missiles for interception or rockets for CAS.
Possible to fit auxiliary fuel tank for some extra range
This is the most detailed cockpit I have made by far, so I do hope you enjoy the build, regardless whether I win or not!

    J36 XSG Typhon – Evaluation

Realism (70/100): Concept and appearance are consistent with late-1950s design trends, inspired by the Saab Draken. However, its top speed (1,450 km/h at sea level and 2,000 km/h at altitude) exceeds the challenge’s limits (950 mph / 1,350 mph), which disqualifies it on performance grounds.

Weapons (30/30): Historically plausible loadout with 2×30 mm ADEN cannons and 4×AIM‑9B Sidewinders, within allowed limits.

Appearance (23/30): Clean and balanced form echoing Scandinavian design, though overall surfaces and finishing are basic.

Build Quality (17/30): Solid assembly and functioning systems; cockpit is simple but complete.

Fair Play (0/30): Disqualified — performance surpasses maximum speed regulation.

Description (30/30): Excellent lore, combining historical context and technical explanation with clarity and immersion.

Total: 170/250 points – Disqualified (speed limit violation).
Good concept and execution, but excessive performance removes it from eligibility despite the build’s strong narrative and structure.
