Westland Sea King HU Mk5

52.5k Tang0five  5.1 years ago

Ah yes the Mighty King! If it’s good we’ll buy it from the Americans, if it’s exceedingly good we’ll licence build it as is the case with the Sea King! The versatile ‘King’ had a wide range of roles in HM forces ranging from SAR and AEW, to ferrying steely-eyed dealers of death to and from operations - finally ending service last year.

The Sea King used to be a relatively common sight and if you ever twisted a sock out and about in the Cairngorms or any other inaccessible place (until last year) you may have seen this particular variant.

Controls
AG1 activates winch (viva la 1.8)
Trim down lowers winch
AG8 lights

Well goggles on chaps, keep that hand on the collective!

I’m not going to lie, that landing below took me many, many attempts. Credit and hats off to any whirly bird drivers out there!

There’s a gyro, did you try yawing or mixing up the controls at bit? @donald347

The tail needs more drag. The aircraft doesn't want to turn when tilted at cruise- it just slips/skids making it very difficult to stay in trim flight.

Why don’t you just add a third engine to the 134 I did a while back and your halfway there? @THEAIRCRAFTCRAFTER

Also if you want, you could try making a much smaller helicopter. The Mi-1 would be where I had started @Tang0five

Thanks @THEAIRCRAFTCRAFTER glad you like this, was there not a TU-4 released quite recently? Not really my kettle of fish I’m afraid and I have a few things I want to finish - plus I don’t build often as don’t have the free time :(

It’s frustratingly slow to fly on high settings on my iPad so I’ve been just making do on low. That’s impressive your a better whirly bird driver than me, it took me ages getting a ‘safe’ landing for that screenshot and then changed the settings improve picture quality @Scottydoestuff
