Phoenix Industries AF-06

13.1k Griffon1  2.8 years ago

The AF-06 is a fighter aircraft built by the aviation company Phoenix Industries. The aircraft was designed to be a more affordable warplane for the Accilian Air Force, but also for export to other countries such as Tennevoll or Exadonia.
The AF-06 is best summed up to be a "Jack of all trades, master of none," as the aircraft was designed for versatility in mind. The aircraft was also designed for improvements made in the future, offering a large amount of extra space for upgrades to computers and such.
Every aspect of the aircraft is replaceable, from the radar, to the engines, to the cockpit interface. This brings unrivaled adaptability for a variety of roles.

Engines

The AF-06 comes equipped with two ATFE-15 afterburning turbofans, which allow this aircraft to achieve respectable speeds, especially at lower altitudes.

Agility

The agility of the AF-06 is relatively mediocre, while the aircraft is not a slug to handle, that does not mean it is not a formidable opponent. The aircraft is almost entirely dependent on gyroscopes (narrative only) for it's control. This results in high stability in the pitch and roll axes, but poor yaw stability.

The AF-06 comes with two airbrakes in the top of its fuselage, but also what would normally be flaps has become large airbrakes on the trailing edge of the wing.

Weaponry

The armament on the AF-06 is geared mostly for aerial engagements, with 4 MSL, 2 QAAM, and 2 LAAM missiles, but unusually, it comes with four 7-rocket pods mounted on the fuselage. These fire in bursts of 4 and are automatically discarded once the ammunition is depleted.

Reliability

The aircraft experienced minor teething troubles with it's gyroscope, which was solved by swapping out the gyro unit. Now, the aircraft's easy-to-replace modules and easy maintenance access make the aircraft very easy to repair and fly.

The AF-06 has become a favorite plane for experienced pilots due to its versatility, and easy-to-modify nature, as parts can be easily swapped out depending on mission and pilot's preference.

Cost

The AF-06 goes for around 75 million, and is sold in various configurations of parts for export.

Creator's Notes
- I removed the variable geometry, since it was too subtle to notice on the old model
- The rocket pods were reworked to fire in bursts
- The aircraft is pictured without roundel and markings due to the aircraft mainly being intended for export.
- I never really got around to adding actual surfaces, so I handed all control over to narrative gyroscopes. Hey, no more leaking hydraulic fluid!
- Everyone loves digital camouflage!

Sorry I haven't been posting at all, as I have really been spending more time with other games more than SP, since the task of remaking and repainting all my old planes is now met with monotony in my mind, and I think I am going to skip Project 8125 (the would-be AF-07) and I might release a more realistic Project 8126 (soon to be AF-08). Perhaps I am really looking forward to the Project 8127 remake. I also have some new, original planes on the lineup too that I have not posted. I haven't posted them for the sake of simplicity, and filling my profile with new planes mixed into the old might come across as confusing...

@Nexy12 Yeah to be honest I'm not too confident in this plane's airbrakes either... Could make a killer interceptor if the right parts are swapped out.

Awesome job, as usual. If I had to offer a tad bit of constructive criticism, it has a deficiency in braking power, which... now that I read the description, I see was intended. The wings are made amazingly tho, and it feels like they are very efficient in reducing drag, which on the other hand does make the braking thing harder too XD. The way I'd describe the armament and agility of this without reading the description is as a ship destroyer.

@Deadeye4827089057 Bud I'd hate to break it to ya but there's a lot of backstory and meticulous planning that went into this and I'm not really looking to expand Phoenix Industries beyond myself. Nothing personal but I'm afraid you can't.
I mean if you come up with something of your own I'd be happy to make a business deal or something, and on top of that you'd have full autonomy in a company of your own.

@Griffon1 I meant concave 90 degree angles. The fuselage angles are convex so I dont think they would reflect radar well. here is a discussion explaining it. The second response has a helpful diagram.

@Griffon1 the shape looks like is would minimize radar detection because of the “no right angles”

The only issue against the F-35 would be stealth, which this plane doesn't have much of
