Summary:

The Daniel Evans-class is a class of 55 guided missile frigates named after Commander Daniel Evans, a posthumous recipient of the Paternian Cross, the second-highest available decoration. The ships were designed in Paternia in 2024 in order to replace the aging Hope-class guided missile frigate, and supplant the modern but expensive Abe-class frigate.

Initially, an advanced 140-meter design by KRIEG was drawn up, but this design evolved into a more capable 160-meter destroyer. Cost considerations ensured that development of the 140-meter frigate was halted, but the focus was shifted to the 160-meter destroyer was pursued in order to replace the heavier surface combatants.

However, this still left the Paternian Navy without a modern frigate. Concurrently, Bandit Shipbuilding was building a 135-meter frigate for export, known simply as the 135-class Export Frigate. The Paternian Navy looked into the ship and found it exceeded requirements.

As a result, the 135-meter Export Frigate was accepted in Paternian Navy service as the Daniel Evans-class in 2024, with fifty ships ordered.

Capabilities:

The Evans-class is a highly capable general purpose combatant, posing a significant threat to land, surface, submarine, and aerial targets.

Missiles:

The Evans-class is fitted with forty Mk 48 Vertical Launch Systems. Each VLS cell can accommodate a single Standard Missile 2/3/6, the HSLAM 2 supersonic low-observable cruise missile, and VL-ASROC ASW missile.

In addition to these missiles, each Mk 48 can accommodate four RGM-114 Hellfire, four RIM-162 ESSM, or four RUM-120 VL-Anti-Torpedo System (VL-ATS) missiles per cell. The VL-ATS is essentially a miniaturized VL-ASROC, designed to provide a hard-kill defense against torpedoes targeting either the ship or others in the fleet.

Guns:

The ship is integrally fitted with two gun systems; the 127mm Mk 92 naval gun, and the Mk 42 pedestal-mounted 30mm cannnon. It is often fitted with a Mk 15 Phalanx CIWS. While depicted with the standard Phalanx CIWS with 20mm M61 Vulcan cannon, it can also be fitted a 60-MJ laser capable of knocking down hypersonic missiles, provided with enough warning.

Torpedoes:

The ship carries two Mk 32 triple torpedo launchers, one fitted to each side. The Mk 32 is a 324mm (12.75 inch) diameter tube launcher which can fire either the Mk 44, Mk 46, Mk 50, or Mk 54 anti-submarine torpedo. Currently, the ship is equipped with the Mk 50 and Mk 54 anti-submarine torpedo.

Aviation:

The ship can accommodate either one SH-90A Lynx ASW helicopter or two MQ-136 DASH II unmanned aerial vehicles.

Electronics:

The ship carries multiple radar systems as well as hull-mounted sonar to maximize a ship's situational awareness and combat effectiveness.

The main radar is the AN/SPY-7 multifunction radar, an active electronic scanning type capable of great precision and high resistance to jamming.

However, the AN/SPY-7 is not accurate enough for targeting aircraft or anti-ship missiles, so two AN/SPG-101 targeting radar are also fitted.

To supplement it, it is fitted with the AN/SPN-19 navigation radar, a system also featured on older ships for accurate navigation. It also has the AN/SPS-45 surface search radar in order to detect, track, and if need be, engage surface contacts.

These systems are integrated under the Aegis Combat Systems.

Countermeasures:

The ship is fitted with six Mk 94 decoy mortars, firing chaff, flares, and decoys at a fixed 60-degree angle. It is also fitted with various jammers in order to thwart attacks by anti-ship missiles.

Powerplant:

The Evans is fitted with a CODOG (Combination of Diesel or Gas), with a pair of 31kW LM2500 gas turbines for great speed, supplemented by a 20kW marine diesel to allow for greater range when cruising. It is also fitted with an 8kW Diesel auxiliary power unit

However, it can be ordered with either the gas turbines of the Diesel engine, if so desired. In addition, it can employ a CODAG (Combination of Diesel and Gas) propulsion if needed.

These drive a single variable-pitch screw and bow thrusters.

This allows me to lower the cost of my ships while still giving good pay.

In 2030, we use workers too, but less of them. However, we arm them with advanced construction equipment that allows them to do much more work for the same amount of effort and time. @Pilotmario

@PyrusEnderhunter $750 million. Mostly because we have to pay people a living wage.

If we didn't have to pay the workers as well as we do, then we could bring it down to $400-500 million million.
